INTERNATIONAL HORSE RACING

Online Racing Games With International Flavor

international race horses

The sport of thoroughbred racing is not unique to the United States. We at Horse Racing Fantasy know that. The fact is that the concept of racing horses first became popular in Europe among the ruling classes of countries like Britain, France, and Ireland. The immense popularity of horse racing in the 1800's led to it catching on in the United States, particularly after the American Civil War. Today horse racing is a global sport. That is why we have added to our action game certain elements of international horse racing.

international horse racing

It's no longer about just the American champion thoroughbred. We are now bringing our players some of the greatest international race horses that ever lived. All of the major countries of the world are competitive in thoroughbred racing, but a few stand out more than others. Horse racing is prevalent and very popular today in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Australia, Hong Kong, and Dubai. We are now offering as part of our racing game, top champion horses from the Uniter Kingdom, Ireland, France and even some greats from Australia and New Zealand. Remember Phar Lap? He's in our game. Even though each of these countries celebrates the sport in their own way, our game brings leading thoroughbreds from all over the world right to your computer, ready for you to jockey and bet while playing our game.

international horse racing games

Dirt horse racing is mostly an American and Canadian concept, or at least it was originally. So is racing on entirely oval racecourses. In Europe and Australia, horses almost exclusively race on turf. This was just as true a hundred years ago as it is today. American racing fans took note that the 2008 Breeders' Cup was held at Santa Anita Park, which features a synthetic racing surface called Pro-ride. We thought it would be fun to take race horses from other countries, with their true racing attributes, bring them into our exciting racing game and let our players match the champions from all the countries while they jockey and bet them on turf, dirt and synthetic surfaces. Imagine now taking these high-profile international horses and racing them on American soil, competing against the best American horses at racetracks all around the country. In our game, you can take the best international champions on the Triple Crown circuit along with the America's top horses. Just maybe you could stop Secretariat's Triple Crown fictory by bringing in some of the best international competition.

Relive or create racing history. Match champions from all over the world!

major international races

Many international tracks are built quite differently that the ones in the United States and that's what is going to make our game even more fun. American tracks differ in size, but they are all oval-shaped. Many international tracks feature irregularly shaped tracks with turns that are not symmetrical, and turns that are also very tight. International horses that run on such tracks may find the going different on an American track. Conversely, taking a great European champion like Zarkava and racing her on the large oval track at Belmont, with it's long straightaway, might not favor her because of her small stature. Our online racing game features all of the major international races that are run every year throughout the world. A full selection of the thoroughbreds from these countries are also available for you to ride. Take these great champions out of their normal racing environment, bring them to America and compete against our champions. Let's see how they do! Have fun in our virtual world, building races, controlling the distance, the track surface, track conditions and everything else that can affect how these international champions will fare against their American counterparts. Take virtual thoroughbred racing to a whole new level. This new feature in our game adds that much more fun and excitement.

international tracks

Horses in the international racing community are almost all bred more for endurance and agility, as most of their races are longer than in the United States, which in today's age focuses almost entirely on breeding for speed. The common turns and tighter that are seen on international tracks accounts for smaller, more agile horses than are generally seen in the United States, as larger horses tend to have a more difficult time making tight turns and running longer distances. Because of this emphasis on endurance over speed, trainers of international horses work their horses over longer distances in order for them to stay sharp. Whereas an American trainer might work his horse over five furlongs in order to keep him sharp five to seven days prior to a race, a European or Australian trainer may have his horse gallop out a full mile, or even farther, because of the generally longer distance races that are run. Keep this in mind when you're racing these international horses. This is a part of the strategy in our fun and exciting racing game. Adding the international flavor brings a whole new level of skill and requires our game players to not only evaluate each horse's ability along with the condition the horse will be racing in. Once you make your decision of who you want to bet or jockey, sit back, relax and enjoy all the virtual action in exciting 3D graphics?

Our horse games contain champion thoroughbreds from all regions of the world. This new feature makes our action games much more challenging. Play our free games now!

HORSE RACING IN AUSTRALIA

Thoroughbred racing in Australia

Thoroughbred racing has been popular in Australia going back to the late 1800's, and today is one of the three most popular sports in the country. In recent years, thoroughbred racing has become even more popular with Spring and Autumn racing carnivals that often attract over 100,000 spectators. There are nearly 400 racecourses in the Australian territories, another indication of the popularity of the sport. Phar Lap, one of the greatest horses of the 20th century, raced in Australia in the 1930's. Racing in Australia includes many territories, each with it's own governing body. Those territories are the Australian Capital Territory, the Northern Territory, Tasmania, Western Australia, Queensland, South Australia, New South Wales, and Victoria. All of the major races that are run in Australia are run on turf. The Caulfield Cup, W.S. Cox Plate, VRC Oaks, and Victoria Derby are the all major races that are run in Australia, but by far the most prestigious race the country offers is the Melbourne Cup, run at Flemington Racecourse. Run at 3200 meters, or just shy of two miles, the Melbourne Cup is the second richest turf race on earth, and is so popular that the day the race is run is observed as a public holiday, a distinction no other race in the world shares. In 2008 a horse named Viewed won the Melbourne Cup by a nose over Blauer, the narrowest winning margin in the history of the race. A son of 1973 Triple Crown winner Secretariat, Kingston Rule, set the still-standing Melbourne Cup record in 1990. Lonhro, Kingston Town, Tulloch , and Bernborough are among the most famous horses to ever run in Australia.

Horse Racing in Dubai

Horse Racing in Dubai

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is the best known as the city in which the Dubai World Cup is held. The race is run on dirt over 2,000 meters, or a mile and a quarter. The race is run at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse, and is currently known as the richest horse race in the world, boasting a purse of $6 million. The race is designed to attract the very best horses in the world, and it has lived up to it's billing. First run in 1996, this race has been won by some memorable American horses, including Hall of Famer Cigar in the first running and Curlin, both horses that can be ridden to victory in our virtual racing game! Our horse game allows players to run in this prestigious race at this great racecourse.

Horse Racing in the United Kingdom

Thoroughbred racing in the United Kingdom

Thoroughbred racing in the United Kingdom has long been an immensely popular spectator sport, with it's roots going all the way back to the time of the Roman Empire. The 21st century has seen attendance explode, and has been near 6 million since 2004. The sport is known there as flat racing, and is run almost exclusively on grass. A great similarity between horse racing in the United States compared to the United Kingdom is that, like in the United States, races there are run mostly left-handed, which is something our virtual horse racing game also features. There are over 60 racecourses in Great Britain, all of them turf, and none of them in an American oval-shape. Some of the turns are extremely long, while others are very tight, which means that small and agile horses run better there. Many English horses did well in the 2008 Breeders' Cup in the United States because of the synthetic racing surface at Santa Anita Park. The English also have a Triple Crown, which consists of The 2,000 Guineas, The Epsom Derby, and The St. Leger. Whereas in the United States the Kentucky Derby is the most prestigious race for three-year-olds, in the United Kingdom it is the Epsom Derby, which is run at a distance of 2423 meters, which is just ten yards longer than the Kentucky Derby's mile and a quarter. The only turf race in Europe more prestigious is the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in France. It would be a great idea to take the American horses in our game and try them in the Epsom Derby to see how they could handle Epsom's racecourse. Britain also features five races that they refer to as the Classics, which are also only open to three year olds. They are the mile long 2,000 Guineas Stakes and the 1,000 Guineas Stakes, run at Newmarket, the 2423 meter (about a mile and a quarter) Epsom Oaks and Epsom Derby, run at Epsom Downs, and finally the 2937 meter (about a mile and a half) St. Leger Stakes, which is run at Doncaster. One horse cannot win all five classics because the 1,000 Guineas and the Epsom Oaks are only for fillies. In our online horse racing game it's easy to imagine trying to race a big filly like Zenyatta over one of those tough English racecourses.

Horse Racing in Ireland

Horse Racing in Ireland

The Irish are very passionate about their horse racing. Ireland doesn't have as many race courses as Great Britain, but the 25 that they do have are well attended, as the sport is very popular. Curragh Racecourse is the most popular and prestigious track, and it features the Irish Derby at a mile and a quarter for three year old colts and fillies, and the mile and a half Irish St. Leger, which is run at a mile and a half and is open to three year olds and up. Great Irish champion horses of the recent past are Yeats, Collier Hill, and the great Vinnie Roe, a horse that won the Irish St. Leger four years in a row from 2001-2004! Imagine running a horse like Vinnie Roe in our online racing game on the synthetic racing surface at Santa Anita in the Breeders' Cup. Do you think he would do well?

Horse Racing in Japan

Horse Racing in Japan

Horse racing in Japan is modeled after American horse racing. Run on dirt and turf, the sport is highly lucrative and the fans in Japan follow the sport intensely. Races in Japan are known around the world as among the richest anywhere on earth. Like the United States, most of the big stakes races in Japan are run in the spring and then in the fall. Japan features the world's richest turf race, the mile and a half Japan Cup. Run annually in November, the race boasts a $4.6 million purse and is run at Tokyo Racecourse. Like Great Britain and the United States, Japan features a Triple Crown, which consists of the Satsuki Sho, the Tokyo Yushun, and the Kikuka Sho. The 1989 American Horse of the year Sunday Silence became the single most important Japanese sire in Japan's history, and is credited with revitalizing the quality of the thoroughbred in that country. His greatest son, a horse named Deep Impact, won Japanese Horse of the Year in 2005 and 2006. In addition to winning the Japanese Triple Crown in 2005, he won most of the most prestigious races in Japan over that period, including the Tenno Sho Stakes and the Japan Cup. He was retired after his victory in the Japan Cup with a great record of 12-1-0 in 14 career starts. He could win on dirt and turf, so there's no doubt that Deep Impact could do very well on a European racecourse or an American track in our virtual racing game.

Horse Racing in Hong Kong

Horse Racing in Hong Kong

Because the British occupied Hong Kong for so long, the British horse racing tradition has left a strong legacy behind now that the historic city is part of China. One of the greatest racecourses in all of Asia is in Honk Kong and is called Happy Valley, which actually built for the British way back in 1845. It was the racing at Happy Valley since it first opened in 1846 that first attracted the Chinese residents of Hong Kong to the sport. Rebuilt in 1995, Happy Valley is now known around the world as a world-class horse racing center, and is currently more famous as a racing museum. Sha Tin is the only other racetrack in Hong Kong. First built in 1978, Sha Tin is where the most high-profile races in Hong Kong are raced. They are the Hong Kong Derby, the Champions Mile, Hong Kong International Races, and the Queen Elizabeth II Cup. Hong Kong also has a Triple Crown, and it's races are run at Sha Tin. The three races are the Hong Kong Steward's Cup at about a mile, the Hong Kong Gold Cup at nine furlongs, and the Hong Kong Champions and Chater Cup at a mile and a half. The greatest horse in Hong Kong's entire history is the amazing River Verdon, a horse that in 1994 became the only horse in Hong Kong's history to win the the Hong Kong Triple Crown, and is a Hall-of-Famer as a result.

Top International Horse Races

international tracks

The most prestigious international race in Europe and, possibly, the world, is the great Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, which is run at historic Longchamp Racecourse in Paris, France. Run 2400 meters, or a mile and a half, no turf horse anywhere on the face of the earth attracts better quality thoroughbreds. It's open only to three-year-old colts and fillies. Known internationally as, simply, "The Arc", thoroughbred trainers and jockeys dream of winning this race in exactly the same way American trainers and jockeys dream of winning the Kentucky Derby in Louisville, Kentucky. Unlike the Kentucky Derby, which is run on dirt and right-handed, the Arc is run on turf and is a left-handed race. Some of the greatest international horses in recent years have failed to win the Arc, including the great Japanese horse Deep Impact, son of Sunday Silence, who was disqualified in 2006 and placed third. The race is so competitive that in the nearly 90 year history of the race, the largest margin of victory is only 6 lengths. At one time, as many as 30 horses were allowed to run in the Arc at one time, but at present the limit on the size of the field is 20. The winner of the 2008 Arc was the amazing filly Zarkava, the first filly to win the race since 1993. Zarkava retired after the race undefeated, but just imagine playing your game and running the great American filly Zenyatta against Zarkava! The contrasts would be striking. Zarkava is a textbook European horse. She's small, she's agile, and she has great stamina. Zenyatta is very large, and has never run beyond nine furlongs in a race. Both of them are closers, though, which means that a race in our online horse game that had both of them in it would set up for a great finish! If you were to run Zarkava at an American track like Belmont for instance, would her small size be a problem in the long stretch drive? Conversely, would Zenyatta be able to handle the irregularly shaped racetracks seen in Europe, with their sometimes long turns and sharper twists? How would Zarkava take to a dirt racecourse? There's no way to know until you fire up our great game at Horse Racing Fantasy. In our game, American horses can race on international racecourses like Longchamp, and international horses can invade the United States and race at Santa Anita Park. Of course, those are just two examples! Our game features an amazing stable of American and international horses that can supply you with an amazing online gaming experience. After trying it one, you'll be hooked on our action game!

Our free racing games are so exciting with the addition of the international race horses. We respect horse racing in Europe and Asia as well as the Middle East and know that true champions can come from any region of the world. Bringing together the best of all race horses helps us create Olympic horse racing events and makes our international players more excited about our free racing action game.
