I like your video! Your friend seems to be a really good jockey. Funny thing though..I've never seen a Quarter Horse Race and I forgot how short they were. I was wonderin' why the jockeys were goin' at 'em with the whips so soon but then I remembered the distance is different then Thoroughbred races.

Well of course she rides just as hard (you have to if you want to handle a 1200lbs animal). That's not what I meant....oh you wouldn't understand, you're certainly not a girl. You see, I think we have a way of being able to calm a horse down more then you rough and tumble guys.

You trying to say I'm scared of hard work? You better guess again then! I LOVE hard work and competition, but I HATE getting beat. And I have a feeling you're going to be chasing me all the way to the finish line. I don't play no nice game either, my mom could be on the track for that matter, and I would want to beat her just as bad as I want to beat everyone else.

You better start thinking of a strategy now because race day will be here before you know it!

Ok whatever works for you. My strategy/motto will be something like: "Once ya get to the front, never look back!" I mean I plan on winning at least a good percentage of the races I ride, and I will win all the races we ride in together.

this is turning into a fun gam haha, but just to let you know im not gonna get beat by any girl on the race track weather she is some gallop rider or a jockey ill beat them, even if im on a longshot and your on the favorite ill push my horse to its fullextent to beat yu. and Taking alongshot and winning on it can be done, alot of famous jockeys and joe, can make any horse run and make it do its best its just how smart you can be with the horse and the other jockeys you wanna beat. i look at it as a consentration and training game. cause thats what it is basicly. and just to stick this in your head good (go to the front and improve) means once im ahead of "you" means ill stay in front of you and beat you and possibly win!!! ahha

I'm VERY Competitive Too

It's more then a game now...it's serious, haha. And at this point, I want to beat you more then anyone else so I don't think you're going to have an easy time of it. Yup winning on long shots can be done, and Joe Talamo is especially good at it. But I'm not going to let you win, no matter if you're on the longest long shot, or the absolute favorite. Hey (get to the front and never look back) means that once I'm in front, I'm not even going to bother looking back to see how far out of the money you finish, lol!

Because you may RUN to each barn but I'm going to SPRINT to each barn. Lol, oh and I really don't mind riding the long shots. Because once I win on all of those, the owners are really going to see how good I am. You on the other hand may be good....only on the horses that have odds of like 6-2.

being a jockey

How old are you? I want to be a jockey so badly. My name is Laura and I am 13 years old, and I have a problem. I live in Indiana, and there is like, 1 racetrack in the whole state, and I have never seen a horse race, live, in person. I don't know any racing fans, trainers, owners, jockeys, anything. The only contact I get with horses, is I am leasing a 13 year old pony, and have been ridiig for 6 years. I ride my dad's girlfriends pony, and recently got my first english saddle. I made a special hole for the stirrups to be jockey style :) BUt I have no contact with anyone to do with racing, and my family totally does not want me to be a jockey. They want me to get a college degree in like, i dont know, but something fancy and buisness like... BLECK!!!! Please, if you have any advice on how in the world, that there is any possbable way for me to become a jockey, please PLEASE P-L-E-A-S-E let me know. I would give my life to be a jocky, and yes, I understand how dangerous it is. I like danger. Also one more little problem. I am 5'4 already. :-{
PLEASE HELP ME!!!! I NEED TIPS!!! (I would also take excersisor, or trainer if I couldn't be a jockey.)

winning races

Okay, this is the best tip I can give you- If it is a long distance race, choose a horse that has good stamina and Very Good or Excellent speed. Pace the horse, and keep it somewhere in the middle, then when the stretch comes, BOOM! Fly as fast as you can. If it is a short race, choose a horse that has the best speed, and anything above fair stamina. Try to get the horse in an early lead, and keep it there the rest of the way, but don't over do it and keep and eye on your horses energy level. If it is going down fast, adn you havent hit the turn, slow down a little, it won't hurt you too bad. Also, when you are choosing a horse for any type of race, look at the odds to, sometimes just knowing who everyone likes help a lot, and helps you make a final decision. And also look at the recent race recors and earnings. You always have to have strategy. Also, if you happen to choose a horse with bad stamina for a long race, and they have good speed, keep them in the back until the final turn, then ease them up, adn try to sneak up on the leaders. I hope I helped, and sorry if this was too long.
