A field of 8 go postward on Saturday in the $750,000 Wood Memorial Stakes but I Want Revenge appears to tower over the field on ability.
I Want Revenge makes his second career start on a dirt surface and is coming off a huge 113 Beyer effort in an 8 1/2-length romp in the Gotham Stakes and will be the heavy favorite and clearly the one to beat.
Lord Justice scratched out of the Illinois Derby to run in the Wood. He has excelled over a muddy surface before and there is the prospect of an off track, so he could run better than people think, especially if the track gets some rain.
Shug McGaughey trains Imperial Council, who ran second in the Gotham last time and hopes to turn the tables on the strong favorite.
Other Wood contenders include Grade 3 winner West Side Bernie, graded stakes-placed winners Atomic Rain and Lime Rickey, and stakes-placed winner Cellar Dweller. Just a Coincidence is coming off an allowance win and will try stakes for the first time.
