The Bob Baffert trained Bodemeister will be the morning-line favorite for Saturdays 137th Preakness Stakes over the Kentucky Derby winner I'll Have Another. Bodemeister managed to hold on for second despite a blistering early pace, and if he can get a more moderate pace today, he could have enough coming down the stretch to hold off the stretch runners. The pace should be far more advantageous to Bodemeister. Went the Day Well came flying at the end of the Derby to get fourth, running his final quarter in that race in a very solid 25 seconds flat. Creative Cause finished fifth in the Derby and kind of flattened out in the stretch, but should not be discounted as he is always close at the wire. The third and fourth place finishers in the Wood Memorial, Teeth of the Dog and Tiger Walk are both fresh, having skipped the Derby. Still, the first two finishers in the Wood, Gemologist and Alpha finished in the middle of the pack in the Derby and didn't make much of an impact. Daddy Nose Best ran a poor race in the Derby, but if he can run back to his Sunland Derby effort, he could make his presence felt. Pretension, Zetterholm, Optimizer, and Cozetti round out the field.
