The $300,000 Melair Stakes at Hollywood Park on Saturday features a short field of six fillies going 1 1/8 miles, led by Willa B Awesome who is coming off a nose win in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks. Warrens Amber and Starlight Magic come out of the $200,000 Evening Jewel at Santa Anita as the one-two finishers, respectively. Starlight Magic did beat Willa B. Awesome last year in the Cal Cup Juvenile Fillies by 1 3/4 lengths. Starry Skies has made both her career starts on the downhill turf at Santa Anita but has won both her starts. She seems to have a tremendous amount of talent but it is always difficult to know how the downhill turf at Santa Anita at about 6 1/2 furlongs will translate to 1 1/8 miles on cushion track. Vicki Victoria and Anna Youre Up round out the field.
