The 2012 Santa Anita Handicap Results

A field of 13 go post ward in the $750,000 Santa Anita Handicap on Saturday, led by Ultimate Eagle and Setsuko. Ultimate Eagle was the dominating winner of the Strub Stakes Feb. 4 in his first start on dirt by 7 1/4 lengths.
Setsuko finished runner up in this race a year ago, losing by only a head and started 2012 with a nice comeback in an allowance race which he won by 2 lengths that should serve as a good prep for him. Uh Oh Bango draws the rail and most recently finished second in the G2 San Antonio and prior to that won the G2 San Pasqual. Ron the Greek is shipping in from the east coast and is coming off a runner-up in the Sunshine Millions Classic at Gulfstream. Gladding is likely to be up close this year and he finished second in the G3 Texas Mile two races back before fading in the Ack Ack at Churchill in the mud last time. Norvsky won the G2 San Gabriel on the turf two back and figures to get a good pace to run at here. Prayer for Relief won two G2's and a G3 race as a three-year-old, but since finished only third in both the San Fernando and Strub Stakes here at Santa Anita. Holladay Road finished third to Norvsky in the Cal Cup Classic on turf at Santa Anita, but only lost by a short neck. Most recently he took the 100,000 Crystal Water at Santa Anita and earned a nice speed figure - this one could surprise. Boxer de Rues, Thirtyfirststreet, Twice the Appeal, Fiddler's Afleet, and Victory Pete round out the field.
