The 2012 Southwest Stakes Results

Our feature race is the second division of the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes for $250,000, with 10 three-year-olds competing and will feature Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint winner Secret Circle, who will go favored. He most recently finished a close second in the Grade 3 Sham Stakes at 1 mile which showed he could handle himself around two turns. He may get some competition from up and comer Cyber Secret who just won an allowance race by 5 ¼ lengths and looks to be on the upswing. Apprehender is an interesting horse who has just one start winning his maiden impressively by 7 ½ lengths, but he did it at just 5 ½ furlongs and over a muddy surface. Whether he can go 2 ½ more furlongs remains to be seen. Scatman is coming off an allowance win at 6 furlongs, but like Apprehender, has never ventured beyond the sprint distance. Adirondack King drew the two post and was on a three-race win streak before it was broken in his last race in which he finished a respectable third. Big Wednesday draws the far outside today and last out defeated 10 other horses in a sprint race over a synthetic surface and was impressive splitting rivals to draw off by 2 ¼ lengths. Z Rockstar, Chalybeate Springs, Pee H Dee, and King Coral round out the field as longshots.
