Mr. Commons will likely go favored in the $150,000 Grade 2 Sir Beaufort Stakes for 3-year-olds at one mile on the grass opening day (Monday) at Santa Anita. Prior to that he was the runner up in the Grade 2 Oak Tree Mile in which he faced older horses. Ultimate Eagle figures to pose the main threat to Mr. Commons having just taken the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby and prior to that the Grade 2 Oak Tree Derby, both on grass and both against three year olds. Venomous finished second to Ultimate Eagle in the Oak Tree Derby rallying from far back, and if he gets the right pace he could close the deal. Comma to the Top has raced mostly on dirt and synthetic surfaces, but the one time he tried turf in the Grade 3 Generous at 1 mile, he won. Riveting Reason, Moment of Weakness, Irish Art, Thirtyfirststreet, and Cozy Kitten will be longshots.
