The $750,000 Whitney Handicap, which will be run at 1-1/8 miles, has drawn a field of 11, and from the looks of it, the race is wide open. A case could be made for almost every runner. The favorite might be Flat Out (who drew the rail), on the strength of his 6-1/2 length romp in the G2 Suburban last month at Belmont. Friend or Foe and Rail Trip finished heads apart in a non-graded stakes last out. Rail Trip has a Grade 1 under his belt, having taken the Hollywood Gold Cup last year. Mission Impazible and Apart finished second and third, respectively, in the G1 Stephen Foster last out. Giant Oaks also comes out of that race but has been struggling as of late, finishing fifth in his last two starts. He did win the G1 Donn earlier this year and could bounce back. Morning Line won the G1 Carter at seven furlongs back in April at Aqueduct but finished off the board as the favorite in the G3 Salvatore Mile at Monmouth most recently. Tizway most recently took the G1 Met Mile, earning a 113 Beyer figure for the effort. Rodman, Duke of Mischief, and Headache round out the field.
