Fridays $1 million Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs features a field of 13 fillies running a distance of 1-1/8 miles. Joyful Victory has won her last two races, the G3 Honeybee and G2 Fantasy, by a combined 15-3/4 lengths, and she will be one of the favorites. The pace will likely be set by Summer Soiree with Lilacs and Lace to keep her honest. Summer Soiree won the G3 Bourbonette Oaks at Turfway last out by almost 11 lengths. Lilacs and Lace lost to Summer Soiree in that race by 12 full lenths, but did come back nicely in the G1 Ashland to get the upset victory. Kathmanblu had won three straight before finishing third to Lilacs and Lace in the Ashland. Zazu developed into a force in Southern California over the winter, capturing the Grade 1 Las Virgenes before finishing a close second in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks. Plum Pretty ran off with a dominating 25-length victory and a field-high 99 Beyer Speed Figure most recently in the Sunland Park Oaks. She did lose to Zazu twice at Santa Anita, but she just might be blossoming at the right time - it is very rare to see such a tremendous margin of victory and she could be something special. Daisy Devine and St. Johns River are the one two finishers out of the G2 Fairground Oaks Daisy Devine is light on speed figures, but she has three wins in her last four starts. Her Smile finished second in the G3 Comely last out at 1 mile, but she may have a bit of trouble going the extra 1/8 of a mile today. Suave Voir Faire, Bouquet Booth, Street Storm, and Holy Heavens, all are big longshots.
