Soldat will break from the rail in the 1-1/8 mile $1 million Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park on Sunday. He will go favored as he did in the G2 Fountain of Youth last month which he won well by two lengths, besting the highly regarded To Honor and Serve, also entered in the race, by almost seven lengths. To Honor and Serve first earned the respect of the horse racing community last year by taking the G2 Nashua and subsequently the G2 Remsen at Aqueduct last fall. He gets a jockey change to Garret Gomez this time and may have just needed the last race - look for a rebound here. Stay Thirsty took the G3 Gotham by 3-1/4 lengths earlier this month and has an outstanding trainer and jockey in his corner. Dialed In took the G3 Holy Bull on January 30th, but disappointed as the heavy favorite in an allowance race next out. Flashpoint is an undefeated two for two, breaking his maiden by 6-1/4 lengths and most recently, the G2 Hutchenson by over seven lengths.
He has a world of talent, but he has never been tested at the 1-1/8 mile distance yet. Bowman\'s Causeway finished 9-1/4 lengths behind Soldat in the Fountain of Youth but does have some talent that will have to be fully realized today to take top honors. Arch Traveler is coming off two straight wins, a maiden and allowance win. Shackleford completes the lineup.
