To Honor and Serve faces off with Soldat in Saturdays $400,000 Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park. The former has won three straight including the G2 Nashua and Remsen last year - this will be his three-year-old debut and is widely considered the second best three-year-old in training behind top Derby prospect Uncle Mo. Soldat ran a decent second in the Breeders Cup Juvenile turf last year, but he really came alive in the slop in an allowance race at Gulfstream last month - he won that race by 10-3/4 lengths and earned a huge speed figure, but can he duplicate such a performance twice in a row? Gourmet Dinner finished a nice third in the G3 Holy Bull and has the advantage of having raced over this Gulfstream Park surface - don't count him out. Shackleford has won two straight but must step up from the allowance ranks with a strong performance here. Bowman's Causeway is an interesting longshot here, having really come alive in his maiden race, and the trainer sees fit to send him directly to stakes competition - he might run better than expected. El Grayling, Caspers Touch, and Racing Aptitude round out the field.
