The Grade 1 Las Virgenes at Santa Anita has a deep field, with six graded stakes-placed fillies entered. Turbulent Descent is undefeated in three starts, and is the horse to beat. Last time out she won the Hollywood Starlet at 1-1/16, and has never been tested. The fast pace should only help her, and the only question she must answer is whether she will be as good on a regular dirt surface. The Grade 2 Santa Ynez, was a key prep for this race, with the top three finishers all returning for another try. This includes California Nectar who won the race gate to wire and held off Zazu by a neck and Plum Pretty for a second straight win. May Day Rose was beaten over three lengths by the favorite Turbulent Descent in the Hollywood Starlet but, unlike the favorite, she has won a graded race over the dirt so she may be able to turn the tables if Turbulent Descent does not adapt well to the surface change. Tiz the Route is a long-shot but she is coming off a maiden win.
