Saturdays Grade 2, $200,000 Strub Stakes at Santa Anita features a heavy favorite in Twirling Candy and perhaps deservedly so. This son of Candy Ride is coming off an outstanding effort in winning the G1 Malibu Stakes and has an excellent trainer and jockey in his corner. He towers over everyone in ability and is the deserving favorite. There are some nice horses in the field however, in Indian Firewater and Tweebster, the one two finishers of the San Fernando Stakes at Santa Anita last month, but they are both rather light on speed numbers compared to Twirling Candy. Honor The Deputy is coming from Laurel Park and is coming off an allowance win, but he has taken three of his four lifetime starts and does seem to be on the improve. Paris Vegas, Make Music for Me, Do It All, and Oilisblackgold round out the field.
