A field of nine face off in the Grade I, $1 million Arkansas Derby on Saturday at Oaklawn Park. Grade 1 winner Nobles Promise finished second and Dublin finished third in the Rebel Stakes last month over this track with Nobles Promise finishing second losing only by a head and Dublin finishing three lengths behind , so these two may have a "horse for course" edge. Dublin weakened late in the Rebel Stakes and today has to go a longer distance, so there could be distance issues for him. Super Saver recently finished a close beaten third in the Grade 3 Tampa Bay Derby and now must translate that form to Oaklawn Park in just the second start of his three year old season. Northern Giant is worthy of some respect though he will be a mid priced horse - he finished second in the Grade 2 Lanes End last month, and third in the Risen Star Stakes prior to that, so he is a hard knocker in stakes company, though this is his first try at Grade 1 company. The horses in the 5 post through the 9 post are all relative longshots, which include Uh Oh Bango, New Madrid, Berberis, Line of David, and Pulsion. Line of David, who will be on or near the lead, has a nice 4-1/2 length win in an allowance race on the grass, but he is untested over both the natural dirt and in stakes company - still, among the longshots, this one looks the most interesting.
