Conveyance will be the heavy favorite on Saturday in the Grade 3, $100,000 San Rafael Stakes at Santa Anita. He leads the pack with a sharp 99 Beyer Speed Figure in his last race, and if he can duplicate that, he will be very tough to beat, as he is 5 lengths the best. However, 3-year-olds are always improving at this time of the year and Domonation could be one of the ones that steps up off his previous solid effort in the 53k Stuka stakes for which he earned an 87 Beyer. Cardiff Giant finished right behind that one in that race, though there could be distance questions for him at this 1-mile distance. Lucky Rave finished a nice 3rd in the G3 Generous Stakes in November but that was on turf and he will have to transfer that form well to synthetic pro-ride and improve as well. Via Verde seems to be a bit outmatched but does get leading rider Rafael Bejarano which makes you wonder if there is something more to this horse under the surface.
