Whatsthescript missed by only a half-length in last year's Eddie Read and can easily handle the 1 1/8-mile distance. He won the 2008 Del Mar Mile Handicap (G2) so he likes it at this track. Thorn Song and Monterey Jazz might get into a pace duel but they are both classy individuals, Monterey Jazz being a multiple graded stakes winner. Thorn Song won the G1 Shoemaker Mile at Hollywood two starts back and has trainer Mike Mitchell in his corner and jockey Mike Smith who is an excellent frontrunning jockey. Dakota Phone is an X factor on the turf and will be coming from far back but has managed only minor awards in graded stakes so far. The same can be said for Global Hunter, he comes close but doesn't win alot. Awesome Gem seems to be a bit better on on synthetic than on turf, but he seems to be a couple lengths slower this year than last year. Artiste Royal is a tough 8 year old veteran and closed well to be second to Monterey Jazz last out in the American Handicap (G2) at Hollywood Park. If Monterey Jazz doesn't bring his A game, this one could very well run him down.Whatsthescript only finished a 1/2 length behind Thorn Song in the G1 Shoemaker Mile and will be coming strong late.
