The 2009 Regret Stakes Results

The Grade 3, $150,000 Regret Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/8 miles on turf, drew a field of 11. The horses all look evenly matched (with the possible exception of Super Poni). Three of the Regret starters, Prytania, Hot Cha Cha, and Excelente, last started in the May 23 American 1000 Guineas at Arlington. The three fillies finished within a length of each other, with Excelente running second and Prytania and Hot Cha Cha, a close fourth and fifth. Darrin Miller, who trains Excelente, said his filly caught the firm ground she wants at Arlington. The front-running Oculuna will try to take them gate to wire. Bankers Choice piloted by Kentucky Derby and Preakness winning jockey Calvin Borel finished third in the non-graded Edgewood Stakes last month at Churchill and looks like an interesting play. Excelente finished just 3/4 of a length behind Banker's Choice in the Edgewood and those two appear hard to separate. The Best Day Ever is coming off a narrow victory in an allowance race and will try to step it up into the graded stakes level. Rena, Satans Quick Chick, Keertana, and Kiss Mine complete the lineup.
