The G2 Woody Stephens is an intriguing race for 3-year-old on the Belmont Stakes undercard. It features many horses that were on the triple crown trail but that were perhaps not suited for the longer distances and get their chance to show their stuff at the sprint distance of 7 furlongs. This Ones For Phil will be one of the favorites, who will be piloted by Garret Gomez and has finished second in his last two Graded stakes attempts. 7 furlongs should be ideal for him. Munnings will also take a bit of action off his nice 3-year-old debut in an Allowance race at Churchill Downs last month in which he received a career best 101 Speed Figure - he has good connections in Pletcher and Velasquez. The betting favorite may be the entry of Regal Ransom who won the UAE Derby and Everyday Heroes who is an undefeated 4 for 4 including his last race the G3 Hirsch Jacobs in which he received a 106 Beyer Speed Figure. Regal Ransom will benefit from the cutback in distance and has an outstanding trainer in Godolphin racing. Hull won the G3 Derby Trial the week before the Kentucky Derby but his figures are a bit light - this lightly raced colt will have to step it up a bit. Gone Astray, Triumphant Flight, stakes placed Hello Broadway, and Kensei round out the field.
