Animal Planet has renewed its reality series Jockeys for a second season, and filming began Saturday March 7 at Santa Anita, according to track announcer Trevor Denman.

Lol, I'm THRILLED that they're making a second season! And it sounds like they're doing it at Santa Anita again? I'm glad because I've gotten really interested in the stories of the jockeys they filmed and I want to see how everything turns out. Besides, personally I don't really think there's a much better batch of jockeys they could possibly film then the ones now. :) I love 'em all to death and I can't wait to meet them some day, as well as race against some of 'em.
Thanks for the blog Aubrie!

So am I! I didn't think they'd film at Santa Anita again, but that is where all the stars are! lol Plus, The Pamplemousse LOVES the camera, so how could they say no?! Oh I'd love to meet the Santa Anita jockeys also, you and I could go show 'em our skills after NARA, LOL.

dream- I disagree with your staetment about that is where all the stars are. It is the eternal battle....but the stars are on the NY circuit. NY has the best overall Colony (not now but when Belmont and Saratoga are in season). California is good but not as good as NY..sorry to say but many of the Cali top riders are NY rejects.

Woohoo! I'm so excited to see they're continuing the show!
I think there's several top circuits of riders, and they're all deserving. Both NY and Cali are very tough, especially come time for Saratoga and Belmont meet. Keeneland and Churchill usually shape up pretty formidable too. I'm just thrilled to get the insight from these riders on what it takes to be successful in this career.
Let us run with perseverance the race that is marked out for us.

dreamscometrue: I know The Pamplemousse is a really cool horse! Haha, yeah no kidding...they'll see that we're SERIOUS and it'll be twice as fun to see the looks on their faces when we beat 'em because we're girls...lol. No...I shouldn't get too cocky now but why not dream big!?
dedewhale: I guess like lizardjockey said, both the CA and NY circuits are VERY tough. But personally, I'm shooting to race in CA someday. Although I guess I wouldn't mind giving NY a shot sometime.

that was funny reading about where the mousse smashes his nose into the tv camera.

By using the word stars, I was mostly referring to the horses at Santa Anita, but I understand what ya'll mean about the jockeys. I hope to race in Cali one day too, haven't much thought about NY.

I think everyone on the east coast is biased to New York riders. You have to give credit where credit is due and California deserves a lot of it. Really all NY has is Johnny V, Kent, Alan and Edgar. You could argue Ramon but he only performs in the winter or in MD. While in Cal. you've got Garret, Corey, Alex, Mike, Joe, Victor, and Rafael.
I always used to argue NY was better but if you take a step back for a moment and see whats out west is amazing.

As far as talent, I think both NY and Cali have 2 very good female jocks in Chantal Sutherland and Rosie Napravnik. Maybe make that 3 with Maylan Studart coming up.
Since I'm so close to Kentucky I consider Churchill and Keeneland my home tracks and would love to ride at both one day, and also at NY in the summer, especially Saratoga. It's so cold in winter though. Brr! I think the winter weather up there could probly have something to do with the "lack" of talent in NY- most of the big-name riders migrate down to Gulfstream for the winter! Maybe I'll just join Aubrie in sunny California an stay warm all year round, lol.
Let us run with perseverance the race that is marked out for us.

I'm so excited to see they're continuing the show also. I love the concept of following these guys around . Good TV on a Friday night

It's great television. Regular folks who thought they would have no interest in horse racing realized that, hey, this is pretty cool! A definite eye-opener and a solid education for the non-racing fan. For the hard-core racing fan, it gets us to realize that, wait a second, these guys are people, too. They don't just ride the horse and they're not just a number when they're running down the stretch - "Go, number four, go! "Go, number two!" You get the point. This show is doing its job.

Are they going to be releasing it onto DVD? Well, I sure hope so!

i don't know if they will but surely they will because they can use that money from the dvd sales and donate it to several foundations in the horseracing & breeding business. like for instance the grayson jockey club foundation, the jockeys guild, K.E.E.P. foundation for unwanted Thoroughbreds when they not fit for racing or the eight belles memorial fund or donate it to finding a cure for laminatis.

ashley12: Yeah, that would be a great idea! Good thinking.

I haven't heard any details about when the second season will air or if the first season is going to come out on DVD. I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

those foundations are the ones that needs money the most followed by old friends. they could just donate it to old friends so that they could expand and give a retirement home to other horses. not just the top stars but horses like the midlevel allowance to bottom feeders claimers since they deserved to be loved on for the rest of their life just like any champion is.
