My computer is fairly old maybe thats why cant handle all the new bells and whistles. But when i try to watch a race on the new version it takes forever to load and then the horses run in slow motion. So i still watch races from old game version i hope they keep that for us with issues with new version.

The old windows desktop

The old windows desktop client will stay around until we have brought over all the features of it to the web race viewer and also ironed out all launch issues of the new site/community etc. So it will not go away suddenly.

Regarding the performance and loading issues: There´s a lot of work being done in the background right now to speed up the site in general, loading times etc, so that should improve over the next couple of days.

Regarding playback performance of 3d content: In general we try to scale the content as much as possible to the hardware it runs on at runtime but if you don´t have a dedicated 3d gpu in your machine that would be a definitive downside regarding playback performance.

What helped many on the forums to get things running better is
-Don't launch the browser/web view from the old windows desktop game client.
-Best first install Chrome ( www.google.com/chrome/ ) and then using that
install the unity player ( http://unity3d.com/webplayer ) and then use Chrome to browse the community, manage your stable etc.

Going to be a sad day when

Going to be a sad day when the old client goes away. I think the new client is a poor 7th place to the old client. Graphix, speed, look, usability, you name it, hate the new client. Will play this game until the day the old client goes away! Mark my words.

Performance

No performance issue w/ my pc:

i7 920
GTX 260 896 megs
3 gigs ram
Win xp

My dad is playing on a crappy best buy celeron. I dont have specs but it barely runs races in the browser. Old game client works for him to jockey/watch races fine. You can notice some frame rate lag at start of race.

Just tossing some specs out there so you can see whats performing and whats not. My machine is by no means top of the line, but its still a decent rig. If they get rid of the old client you have to wonder how many people have decent 3d machines when this is a "browser" game and not really aimed at high end gaming machines.

Actually I dont know if this post has any importance but its worth 10 points....

Keep Desktop

I hope the old desktop version stays around for good. I prefer it over the new game. Sorry but Im oldschool in that part of this game. I like many of the other new aspects but keep the desktop for trainer races-please.

We on our end wouldn´t cut

We on our end wouldn´t cut support for the old windows desktop client but in a way time is not the old client´s best friend because it can´t be deployed to Mac, nor is it likely it will run on upcoming Windows 8 devices on the windows side.
Add on top of that that we also want to support mobile devices and other platforms over time, and yeah, that all together doesn´t leave such a bright future for developing the old client further for much longer, the old codebase is just not future proof regarding being deployable to modern (upcoming) operating systems and devices.
So due to all that our aim is to create a new client platform, work on it matching the functionality of the old one over time (and even going beyond that) but with the difference that it can be deployed to the web and also as native app to mobile devices, macs and windows pcs, the 3d modules in various parts of the new community pages are just a first start of that.

We´re aware of some features of the old windows client not existing yet in the new web race viewer of course and will work on bringing more of that over but if you have any particular usability issues or feature requests let me know =)

Regarding the performance on weaker machines, while we´ll tweak that some more a good chunk of that is also due to it running inside a browser window, where it just doesn´t get the same system resources as when deployed as a standalone app (just as comparison, as i said we´re also working on standalone app versions for mobile devices: all 3D modules we have online right now already work fine on an iPad and iPhone when deployed as native app, so you can imagine how much performance/speed loss there is due to running in a browser window when it requires a much more powerful computer than an iPad to run as nice inside the browser as it does on the iPad and iPhone).

For the meantime I also posted some suggestions for getting better performance going on your end here: http://www.horseracegame.com/community/comment/reply/710889/157798

and here's a thread with a quick guide on the new web race viewer to get most out of it in its current form:

I can't get the web viewer to

I can't get the web viewer to work for me at all. I have yet to even view a race in it. I had figured it was my crappy laptop with 512mb of ram so I got a newer one with 2g of ram. When I try to view a race it just keeps saying it is loading but never does no matter how long I leave it. All I keep seeing is a geometric pattern scrolling by. I seriously hope the desktop client is not going away. I can't afford to buy a laptop that will run it the web viewer obviously.

2 gig Ram is plenty enough to

2 gig Ram is plenty enough to run the web race viewer so there´s probably a different issue.

Let´s try to get to the source of this:
Do you get any kind of error message?
Can you clear your browser cache, reload the page and see if you get a different result?
Could you tell me your system setup specs? (cpu, gpu, operating system and version, browser type and version, internet connection type/speed)
You can also send me a pm if you prefer that.
