ride the horse by his racing style

When riding the horse go bu his racing style. If he likes the front then try that. if he likes the back stay back. Its not that easy but that is the idea. Once you get going I suggest you try reading the help from the field of horses page. if you read that help section and scroll down you will see jockey and riding tips ....they help a ton

I have found that you have

I have found that you have to ignore running style quite often. If you can run a race that matches the style then good....but what I try and do is figure out the half way. Make sure that the health meeter if higher then half for the first half of the race. Once you pass the half way mark depending on how much distance I have left I increase the energy used. Intul I get to between 2.2 furlong and 1.8...and depending how much energy is left floor the energy for my last run.

Sometimes traffic, running style and energy used will effect this strategy but this is arough guidline.

if I am on the lead....I will often nurse my energy to just keep ahead of the second horse and slow things down so I have more energy then the rest of the field.

It depends what kind of

It depends what kind of horse I'm using. The PP's are a major turning point for me to pick a horse. If the horse shows speed, I will try and get him to the front end. If the pace is hot up front I take back and let them go at each other staying within 4 or 5 lengths and then making my move in the turn.

If I'm on a closer and the pace is hot, of course thats great. The only problem will be on making the decision to try and sneak up the rail or swing to the outside and maybe go wide. If the pace is slow I like to inch my way closer to the pace a little earlier then I normally would.

But for the most part, just like in real life, if you pick apart the PP's you can find the winners.
