Not sure who saw the race at Belmont but Giant Ryan blew out both front sessamoids and was pulled up in the stretch. I don't think the announcer knew what was going on until after the race or he just decided not to comment on it, but it's clear to see in the race when Giant Ryan breaks down and is eased briskly. Haven't heard any updates on him as of yet as far as his condition but let's cross our fingers for this big guy. Horse racing does not need another breakdown story during such a heavy televised weekend at Belmont.
I had WPS money on Giant Ryan and have been a fan of the horse for a while now. So yes like how you said, when I saw him up close to the lead then eased and the commentator didn't comment on it at all. GL Giant Ryan.
to hear this sad news. From the artical (link) ,it looks like he has a fighting chance to survive and go to the breeding sheds. Let's hope so. Prayers going his way.
I watch a lot of races via TwinSpires from my computer and have noticed a recent trend not to mention anything about these break downs.I'm sure it has to do with the amimal rights groups. In the past, if was common practice to keep the fans aware.

Thanks for the update. Yes, it's getting the blood flow going, that's going to make the difference. Let's pray that that happens.
Unfortunately Giant Ryan didn't make it. Lost another horse to laminitis due to his injuries. RIP big guy.
I watched the race and noticed that when they were going around the last turn, Giant Ryan's jockey started pulling him up. I am just wondering if Giant Ryan clipped heels with another horse that was in front of him or if he took a bad step(has a tendacy to happen a lot in thoroughbred racing). That is too bad that it had to happen to such a nice horse.
