Hi All-
Noob here so any help is appreciated. I have a horse with a bsr of 115. I have run a ton of practice races with him but the highest SR he has reached is 107 on a 6.5f fast dirt track, but even when I run the same race and same set up he rarely reaches that level. I have tried numerous distances and surfaces and he seems to average in the 90's. Does this mean I havent found the right age/distance/surface or do horses rarely reach their max bsr. Any help/hints/tips are appreciated.
Thanks!
Your BSR on your horse is 115. So you would put that horse in a Green 117. For me for a horse to compete in the tournaments I like to see my horse run 100 - 107 @6F on dirt. That is for a 2yo. Some horses will run about the same as in training as in the tours and some won't in tournaments. After they have run there race in training check there stamina level in the results page. If the horse has around 400 - 500 left then you have most likely found the horses distance. Then you can compare that with what your performance report tells you on what the horses distance is.
I have some horses that will run right at there BSR in tours @2yos others take longer to get to that BSR. The real way to see what your horse can really do is in the real tournaments.

The birth speed rating of a horse is the projected speed rating it should achieve at its peak age.
The speed ratings it achieves in actual tournament races will most likely be lower than the BSR early on in its career but should continue to progress up to its peak age.
There are virtual horses that have achieved higher speed ratings than their BSR, some even before reaching their peak age. This is where courage, the horses stamina and best surface/surface condition and favorite track coming together can sometimes allow for this to happen.
By entering your horse in tournaments it (hopefully) will develop to its full potential to its peak age and maybe continue to be competative for a year or two beyond its peak age.
In Advance Mode you should be trying to find your horses best distance, surface/condition and then having done this, place it in a tournament to see how it will actually perform in tournaments.
As the horse is a 115 BSR I would run that horse in a Blue Restricted 116 BSR.
This is just my opinion but for this sites official information click on this http://www.horseracegame.com/community/content/69981/trainer-game-traine...
From here scroll down to "I Own a Horse - Now What Do I Do?" and work your way down from there.
Hope this gives you a better step by step understaning of the Trainer aspect of the game. Good Luck
Good helpful post, but I thought that you and other new players should know that the performance report is NOT 100% accurate on surfaces. Here's an example.

And here's a copy of NC's PR.
Racing Stamina : This horse would probably prefer middle distances. That doesn't mean he won`t be able to sprint at shorter distances, but his preferred racing distance is somewhere around a mile. Lasix might help this horse carry his speed all the way up to 1 3/16 miles. Experiment in these areas.
Dirt Surface : This is horse`s preferred racing surface. This horse can handle this surface well. In fact, this horse loves to race on this surface. Expect his best performances to come from this surface.
Sand Surface : This is horse`s preferred racing surface. This horse can handle this surface well. In fact, this horse loves to race on this surface. Expect his best performances to come from this surface.
Turf Surface : This horse does not like this surface. If he`s really talented, he may be able to overcome his dislike for this racing surface.
Synthetic Surface : This horse does not like this surface. If he`s really talented, he may be able to overcome his dislike for this racing surface.
The PR says NC doesn't like turf, and it's 50% right; he hates turf/firm or hard, but loves soft or yielding turf. The PR only accounts for turf/firm. So even though the PR may say your horse doesn't like turf, it doesn't mean it won't like soft or yielding turf. Hope this helps.

I have found a pretty good way to acheive close to, exactly on, and sometimes over the projected BSR. Saying that, I do not wish to write it in the forum, for I have been blasted for putting info in the forum, so if I can trust you not to tell the whole site, and you are serious about learning the game. P.m. me and I will show you what I got. If not good luck. Alot of the info in this thread already is pretty good, and should be a good base to use as well

You have all been very helpful.
Here is an interesting topic. I have had horses reach their BSR or exceed it in training races. Sometimes I race them against others in my stable, against retired horses, or against community horses and they will come close to their BSR and then sometimes, they wont' even come close to it.
If your horse has a BSR of 115, I would recommend one of the restricted tournaments to see how he does against other stables and their horses.

One of my young horses just got a higher speed rating figure than his bsr when he ran in his first 3 year old tournament. A Blue restricted, dirt fast. The winner got a 135. My horse, finishing second, got a nice 129. His best ever out of a dozen races. Hope he repeats this performance tonight. Fingers crossed.
Congrats on your horse. I can't wait for that to happen to me, it seems like my horses all have a knack for running about 10 points slower than I expect. The mid season/late season seems to make a big difference sometimes. I have a lower level horse who seems to love mid season but there are no mid season tourneys he can compete in.
Graydog, you can request tournaments by going on the request page for the tournaments which is above vote tournament on the right hand side of the page. Depending on where we are in the month will depend on which part of the month you can request for a certain trainer tournament to start. It has the surface, distance, and date that you can select. Best of luck to you on the track.

You might want to wait for someone who knows the answer to this a little better, but my horses so far I have at least found where they meet their BSR or exceed it. Have you tried every surface and every distance plausible? Change the competition he's faced in advanced mode by manually picking the horses? The PR you get is 100% accurate to the horses surface/track preference but may not be accurate at distance because I've had what were said are sprinters stretch out and long distance horses sprint. I've had a low 96.7 BSR horse pull 120's on a certain surface and a 106 get into the low 130's. Also when you set up these "training" races do you check the Each Horse At Best/Peak Age box? Some horses won't fire until they get older and hit their best ages. I have a few horses that don't run spectacular as 2 year olds but once I bump up the age in practice mode they do a lot better.
