oK YOU JUST GOT INTO THE GAME! AND YOU LOVE IT! And you love horse racing or just a plain old degenerate gambler. I am sure all of you fall into 1 of these categories. LOL. Well if this game has been as frustrating to you in your first few tries as it was for me, I have some info for you. I know they tell you to find a mentor, and suck thier brain for info, but let's be honest with ourselves. Most of the mentors probably live no where around you and your schedule with them is probably conflicting.(In my case, my mentor Micmac, a great player and well known trainer in his own right lived halfway across the globe ffrom me and it was very hard for us to connect. In all I think we had 1 correspondence through pm, and that was that. No negative feeling Mic, from what I hear you are a great guy, but let's call a 1 legged horse a 1 legged horse.) On top of that who really is gonna tell you everything? I mean thier goal is to win just like you want to do. Now i know they get incentives when you win, but i would much rather win , then watch a guy that I told all of my hard earned tricks, win. That's just common sense. So I mostly had to wing it, except for a few tips i picked up from some good guys along the way this past month.( You guys know who you are, and I am forever greatful.) I say all of this to say the best thing you can do to become a winner here is to work hard to find out how to win on your own. And let me tell you, when you start to win races from placing horses well, cutting the right horses and learning how to manage a stable that fits your budget, the feeling you get is uncomparable. my horses have placed 9 out of ten of my last races including my first cash in a trainer tourney. In retrospect, it seems so easy 1ce you learn the game and play it right. You will find the search engine in the community to be very helpful in building your game, and the understanding and usage of the DAT file, which video's can be found on Ronwar's website and also on youtube, to be most valuable in becoming a winning trainer. It will take up 30 minutes of your time, but you will be saying ty Ronwar for days to come. on that note Thank you Ronwar, I owe you. If you are ever in New Orleans, dinner is on me. keep in mind you should still practice by runnin your horses in practice mode even after you figure out the dat file. This is very important. The file may say that your horse runs well on multiple surfaces, but 1 may still be better than the other. So don't think of the file as a shortcut, but more of an indepth look at possible strategies that you may be able to impose. Lastly, do not get caught up in the BSR hooplah. when I began I spent buy in on buy in to get a 130 horse, only to get 3 that weren't worth the ,metal shoes that held them upright. Find out which of your horses can dominate at the speeds that they can run at, and build your stable with solid horses instead of high bsr horses that cant beat some of your so thought as donkey's. In time if you run into a good high bsr horse, great for u. pm me and you will have my vote for the shed. But dont forget that there are storage fees and holding onto a fast donkey will only cripple your account points and have you spending money on more point's while complaining that the gaame is fixed. So try to figure out when keeping a horse is more headache then help. There is alot more on my mind, but this is a forum not a short story paper, so i'll stop rambling on. Try some of these methods out, I promise you, your game will improve dramatically. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I don't know it all but I will gladly give you any knowledge that I have obtained in my short stay here. Remember winners are born every day, and champions usually make it because they worked harder than the guy next to them, not just because they are born with a gift of winning. I hope I have helped someone. Good luck at the tracks!!!

Agree and Disagree

I agree with nearly everything you posted with the exception of 1 thing. GET A MENTOR!

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by doing it. If you get a mentor who doesn't help you, then you're on your own. But if you do your homework and pick a good mentor whose schedule matches up with you, and whose specialties in the game match what you want, you'll be glad you did it. When you browse the list of mentors, pick out 3 or 4 that you would want to work with, then check all of their profiles. Are they good trainers? What are their available hours? Do they have a good reputation? Are they active in the community? If you can say yes to all of those questions, you've got yourself a good mentor. And I know from experience that most of us will share our tricks to help players win if they show the willingness to really learn the game. Just my 2 cents. You're not required to get a mentor but I really think it's worth it. I know it was the best decision I made when I joined. (Thanks Lou)

I almost forgot

I almost for got to talk about how important it is to go back to your performance reports(which can be found on your stable page) before every race and make sure that you place your horses at the right distances and give them the correct training routines and jockey instructions. You can place a horse correctly ,but give bad jockey or trainer instructions and watch them under perform when you thought you had an easy win. Some horses wont respond to jockeys, and attempting to force jockey instructions on them instead of letting them race at their regular running style, may cost you a race here and there. I thinks that's about it. Good luck!

Mentor

Can't disagree with that at all. If I made it sound like you shouldnt get a mentor, I apologize. For me I just got 1 that didnt coincide with my schedule. Alot of guys read my posts' of needing help and offered to be my mentor, but MICMAC had already accepted me. I am sure there are some great mentors out there, just choose wisely. You only get 1 shot at doing things right the first time. If that makes sense . Good luck!

1. Learn how to use paragraphs
2. You have only been here 5 weeks , you can't learn it all in that amount of time
3. Yes a mentor is a good thing, even if I never got one.
4. The more time you can devote to this great game the better.
5. Never give up during a losing streak.
6. accept your losses and learn from them.

I'm mentoring a student right now

Being a mentor is one tough task. Forget teaching them around, We take the pain of teaching a newcomer from how to copy and paste a link upto where and how to enter a horse. The biggest problem is we cant see what they are really doing and most of the time they do it wrong and we keep explaining the same thing again. It is so confusing and the hardest bit is explain to them in writing. On top of that, mentors get paid nothing unless the student wins or become a vip. 5-7/10 students leave the game after 1 or 2 weeks and in the remaining ones, hardly 1 becomes a vip.

I dont mind teaching whether they become vip or I get paid or not, but probably next time I will only take student who have swimmed around for a few weeks rather than 2 days old newcomers and should have basic computer skills.

Keep trying

I think one important thing for a newbie is to not get frustrated at the begining. You really have to try new things all of the time to find out what works for you because everyone trains differently.I myself started out only winning 12 of my first 350 races(3.4%) and was ready to quit due to frustration but i started trying different things and came up with one simple rule for all of my horses and since then have hit 74of 437 races(17%). as in life, you have to keep trying to succeed!!

1. For a minute i thought you were not an idiot. Which i'm beginning to second guess myself.

2. My message was to the newcomer not you. So why are you adressing me in a forum which doesn't concern you?

3. Paragraphs are over rated, especially in a forum when i'm talking about 1 idea which is preparedness for the new guys against super trainers like you.

4. How can you comment on having a mentor if you didn't have 1? Not saying that you shouldn't have 1 but ivv'e done better than you in my 5 weeks so eat those words as you would tell DAAKA.

5. Just because you've spent thousands of dollars to finally win doesn't make you good. If you throw 1 or 2 quarters at a plate and they land, that's good. But if you throw a hundred quarters at the same plate, of course some will stick. As you have with your super stable. Congrats for being sucessful because you spend too much money.

6. If the best info you can offer is ridicule, you can save it for yourself. I'm sure Daaka has plenty to ridicule you about. So argue with him. I have no time for your b.s.

7. It's obvious you still don't know the game after a year playing and spending a few thousand dollars breeding, since you still don'y know the difference between a grade 1 and a grade 3 horse. Sad really how you pick on poorer players by placing top notch horses in Grade 3 tourney's. While working at the New Orleans fairgrounds I've never seen an owner or trainer for that fact run grade 1 horses in grade 3's. What a waste of talent or fear of losing. JMHO

8. If you don't have any helpful information for the new guys, find you a different platform for your negativity. This thread is for helping guys who wouldn't get the help from guys like you. Remember mr. giant that every 1 you step over on your way to the top, you have to see on your way down. Can't wait till the day that HRF stops rewarding you shed spots for winning grade 3's with grade 1 horses.

9. Lastly I apologize to the new guys for this comment i had to respond to. I understand if you read this, you will never get back the last 5 minutes of your life that was wasted listening to me scold this childish acting adult.

10. Good luck at the tracks!
