Yes, I'm a newbie on here but not in the racing world. Secretariat is a horse that everyone thinks to breed to because he was so great. But, I was wondering if his foals are any good or if they turn out how they did in real life (not so good)?
Also, is Ruffian a good dam?
Secretariat had a quite lackluster career as a stud. He did produce a few stake winners but his caliber was never reproduced. He did sire a good one in General Assembly who won the Travers and had a speed figure that was one of the highest to date.
As for Ruffian she died before she had any foals. For the game, breeding is just pot luck. I mated the two of them together and got a dog.
You are right Secretariat was a great broodmare sire. But he did have a great one by the name of Risen Star. He won the Preakness and the Belmont and in my opion should have won the Derby and would have been a triple crown winner. At the time he won the Belmont it was the second fastest Belmont behind his daddy
Secretariat, in my opinion has more low bsr horses then good, but has more courage and consistency then others. Ruffian never was able to have any foals in real, but on here she has a alot of great horses. It could also Depend on who you match them with.
I cannot tell anything about Secreatrait's foals here on hrf and I don't know of any good horse anyone has bred with him as a sire. Ruffian has some really good foals! Just know of a few sires you could try to breed to her: Seattle Slew, Dr. Fager, Damascus and Bold Ruler. These have prodced some champion horses here. But you rarely find any good horses with a high BSR (130+).
Hey Giggles!!...I would say that both are good. However, I am new also and have very limited experience.
I read somewhere that if your horse's BSR is over 110 then it is good. I have only bred 11 horses so far,
but I am happy with the results. I have only retired 1 so far. My two Secretariat's were both over 110,
although one was after a vet visit. I have one Ruffian that also turned out well. I think you may be right
about him in real life though, I think he made a better Grand Sire. Now my next 10 horses could be all donkeys,
so you may want to hear from someone with more horses...lol....Good Luck
