The horse whose DAT file I posted in the BS DAT thread ran her first race today. She trains horribly but has great speed numbers in her DAT. She lacks rate and courage. Today she posted a 119.6 SR at 7.5F dirt fast. Who knows if she can repeat her performance.
The real question is what is the use of training if it is nowhere near what her actual performance will be. I always assume there will be a drop in performance when horses race for real which I understand. This horse has problems beating my 125ish horses and sometimes loses to a 119. She averages a 106SR at 7.5 dirt fast but always has energy left in training.
If I based my evaluations of her strictly on her training, I probably would of retired her unraced so the DAT file at least gave her a chance. I guess the moral of the story is to use all the information you can and then hope for the best.

If I remember right, the horse you're talking about was a 132.8. I have a 132.8 myself with a similar DAT to the one you posted and she also trained horribly. Averaged about 108 at 8F dirt/fast. And that was the only surface she ran over 100 on. But she's won a general for me and over 1 million in earnings with average SR's closer to 120 than 108. Makes no sense for her to train so bad yet run the way she does in tourneys. Hopefully yours will be successful too. Good luck.

I found another great relic from the old chats. It is slavedave's reply to suncity after suncity announces that he has got to run as he has a hot date tonight.

Dat files are a great addition to training your horse.

Although the DAT files, Performance Reports and Advance Mode Training have value, your horses' performance in an acutal tournament are more accurate as to their true capabilities. Of course you have to take into consideration Post Position, Distance, Surfaces, Jockey & Trainer Instructions, getting caught in traffice or stuck five wide in long turns, its all relevent.
Some times the horses are immature and I have seen trainers age them by putting them in tournaments where they move up from age 2 to three without having used up all their tournaments @ age 2. Most horses will not match their BSR at age two or even three as the BSR may be reached as it gets closer to or arrives at its peak age.
Getting rid of a high BSR horse should be done in a Insta Tournament, another trainer might want to take a shot with it. You never know. It could turn out to be a great one, then again it could turn out to be one hit wonder.
