Personally i would have entered an option in the game called training mode where you can give your horse a style you want him to run from your desktop twice a day. Your horse would learn to adapt to that style you wish him to run. But forget that for the moment. It brings more complication.
For jockey I would like to see moving point along with fast early or true style or slow early. You can set a point where you want your horse to make his fastest move. Factor affecting it will be how long your horse can keep going at that speed. So you will have to evaluate and set the instructions.

just getting them to do what they are instructed to do.
There is no way that anyone can tell me that the instructions of "Slow down early, Save ground at all costs" can be translated into your horse bolting to the front while staying four wide in an opening quarter of :21.2 !!!
I've seen this happen more times than I care to remember and much more so lately.
If my horse gets beat, it gets beat, so be it. But at least give me the satisfaction of having it get beat by running the way it was instructed to do so.
How long do you think Mike Smith would have been on Zenyatta by gunning to the front in 21:2 ??? I can assure you, not very long.
Just have them do as instructed and I would be fine with it.

I would like to see more options for jockey instructions also. When you set up a race in advanced mode, there are more instructions for the horses that are not yours. (For example, when to move, target pace, etc.) I would like to see this for our own horses in tournaments. It would be very helpful.

LOVE TO SEE NO OPTION FOR INSTRUCTIONS AT ALL. JUST TRAINER SHOULD BE ENOUGH AND THE JOCKEYS SHOULD KNOW WHAT TO DO.

Do the jockeys follow instructions of the trainers or does the computer programming decide how a horse is ridden? After watching thousands of races in which my horses have run I am coming to the conclusion that the instructions we give count for little.Save ground often has my horses running 4/5 wide for most of the race when there are no horses inside and in the straight they go to the rail and get blocked for a run etc.VERY FRUSTRATING to watch.Despite problems with jockey ai I still enjoy the game immensely.

Total opposite to Nick. I reckon they need way more options and instructions . Toungue ties and Nose rolls for horses that wont take gaps...etc..... also the way we can change the pace for your horse in training , we should be able to do this in the game , sometimes you have a horse that is a sprinter that runs full ball and tires bad, it would be good to be able to set his pace a little bit slower so he can manage his stamina... stuff like that.. you could charge a fee for the nose roll and toungue ties.. jockey instructions and co is the biggest problem in this game and fixing this will satisfy 99% of the playas. personal opinion.

21burns.. The race is done by numbers , but the question is, is this done after the deadline for instructions ? Or before the instructions does the system decide??
If its before then obviously the instructons make no difference . If its after then it might.!! It would be good to know this..

And remember , if you dont set instructions, it can be a 2 percent difference give or take in performance is what i have read... So that is not much , not much at all , but it could turn a half length second place into a half length win

why would any trainer expect there horses to run same in training and same in tourney....not possible...perhaps you may come close...but just not possible. Because you don't know just how good the competition maybe be. In a tourney trainers could have up to 2 or 3 champions in the making, entered in one particular tourney. In the generals tourney horse bsr range from 125 -150 compete....good luck. Thats why i prefer blue restricted tourneys theres a better range to work with... i seem to be getting better results.
if you feel your horse is running too fast to early when you given instructions to hold back, its probably because you have a sprinter or mid distance runner and the opposition have mid-long distance runners and they too are instructed to be held back...and its there natural preferred running sytle flex mid, far back etc.
Just some thoughts i wanted to share feel free to comment

maybe get rid of them all together they dont work and there is no reason to spend time doing them..

guys, i agree with fire dance, they could be like that and also have a space for extra comments, like a trainers instructions to the jockey in a real race.

BLINKERS blinkers for horses that cant take gaps....nose rolls for horses that swoop and get into trouble constantly,,,,, Charge a fee. but make the add ons actuall improve the horse in that field!! stuff like that would be good .....
horses that use toungue ties tend to swallow thier toungue when racing and lose air therfor loose stamina !! hence the reason why the tie the toungue!! maybe ou could have toungue ties as a stamina add on... you know gives our horse abit of extra stamina!!
these options would all be great and you could charge on them!!

Here are a couple of quotes from the help section................
1."Assigning jockey instructions is only indicated as an intent of how you want your horse to race. Just like in real horse racing, your horse's natural ability and the competition that he's facing may prohibit the jockey instructions you've provided from taking effect."
2. Workouts have less than a 2% impact on your horse's anticipated performance for an upcoming race.
I guess the keyword in quote #1 is "INTENT"

There have been improvements recently and this sport, horse racing is very unpredictable at best anyway. So the balance of stupid horses, jockeys and trainers is well represented in the trainer game just as it is.
Horse racing will never be an exact science or even close but harness racing tops everything. If you really want something to complain about then perhaps someone should suggest adding a harness racing section to this game. I would love to read those threads.

I remember betting the buggies back in the early 70's at a small track in Kentucky. There were (4) Finn Drivers and they were all either brothers or uncles or sons.....You knew they were going to win the majority of the races ina a given night but you just couldnt decied when THEY wanted to bring in the Longshot. I've seen odds drop from 30-1 down to 4/5 in the last minute.
Yea, there would be some major discussions going on here if there were Harness racing involved.

Ron, you must be talking about Audubon Raceway. That track has changed names over the years. I use to visit that track in my younger days while living in the area. I remember Randall Finn in particular. I seemed to win more money when Randall was in the sulky.

Yep....thats the place....Randall Finn was the best of them...I think his dad was Merle (?)...there was a third regular Finn driver and then a grandson or nephew came along towards the end.
