Anybody watching the new HBO series "Luck"? Dustin Hoffman and Nick Nolte are doing a good job, horses are beautiful and the scenery is great. I am afraid that non-horse people are having a hard time following it because I have had to rewatch a few things but I hope it does well. Any comments on authenticity?

It is a little hard to follow, but it was intentionally done that way to represent what really goes on the racing world. For newbies, the lingo is a little confusing, but it does create a realism. The jury is still out on whether the show will succeed or not - or at least appeal to the masses.
The one thing I don't like is how they call the Pick 6 payout a 'jackpot'. Looking forward to next week.

I probably should subscribe to Home Box Office. I hate missing shows like this.

I see the show going down the road of organized crime and corruption, with the backdrop of horse racing and casinos. It will not be long before we see our first "hit"...I think it will only get better, but probably needs to go the Sopranos route to stick around.

I'm an HBO Sunday junkie. From The Wire, Oz, The Sopranos, True Blood, Boardwalk Empire, Treme, Six Feet Under, Big Love, Rome, Entourage, Deadwood, Game of Thrones, the list goes on and on. Hell, I even tried to get into Sex and the City...lol
I can't wait for the new season of Game of Thrones to start.
I definitely think if you know a little bit about horse racing helps. So far I like it a lot.
Did anyone notice that when they showed the pick 6 payoffs, the payoff on the 2 horse was around $600,000. Then as the race ran they showed the payoffs again (after the other horse broke down, and they all said "what's our next highest payoff") and the payoff on the 2 horse was now $2 million?
I guess we weren't suppose to notice that...lol

I have seen advertisements for this show but have not watched it yet. Hopefully it will do well!

I'm the same way with HBO. I was late on the Game of Thrones, but after seeing a few previews of the new season, I went back and watched the old ones. Great show!

As Puddles said "It is a little hard to follow". That's because the direction was poor.
But the writing and acting were awfully good.
I was up to episode Four and just getting into it when I learned the show has been cancelled due to Three horses dying during production.
Apparently they were using old retired racehorses to film the action scenes.
But that is total BS!!!
I just happened to read the credits in the last episode and I noticed something that, besides freaking me out, explains the sad news of the horses demise.
Read the credits where it says "Veterinary Supervisor".
Yep, it was none other than Dr. Kno Needles himself.

Great show but it's gone.
