In the thread "Things You Hate About The Game", Racodo mentioned that keeping a constant criteria that goes along with the sacred Same Horse Button should be implemented.
I couldn't agree more.
That brought to my mind something far more insidious. The fact that the default setting in training is "Run Horse Faster Than Normal".
ONE player agreed. Doublevision, clearly as frustrated as I am, wrote;
"P.S. Please for the love of god make the default running style "Race my horse in accordance with his true running style". This would take a programmer about 2 minutes to fix".
The posts in that thread were heavily laced with complaints of "How come my horse runs so differently in training as opposed to real tournaments?".
THIS IS WHY! At least I feel that it's a large chunk of "Why?".
This should be the number One complaint. You are wasting a lot of your time training your horses with instructions that are different from actual tourneys.
Ever notice how your horses tend to run like crap in longer training races?
THIS IS WHY!
And if this IS in fact a two minute fix, as Doublevision guesses, then it is a CRIME that this is not fixed pronto.
PLEASE can we get the default changed to "Run Horse In True Running Style"!
I'm begging.
If you agree, or don't, please leave a comment on this thread and off to Da Man it shall go.

I agree with all that you said. Especially the quote above. This, in my opinion, is the biggest flaw/deception in the game. Must be improved. Understatement.

I agree 100% with your post. Also with regards to the training part of the game it is so frustrating not been able to get an accurate assesment of how your horse will run.If training your horse is not a true reflection on the horses ability then why bother to train it and what is the purpose of the game. The idea is to use what you know about a horse from training and enter it into a tournament where itwill be competative. But until this issue is seriously looked at it seems to me that it is more a case of blind luck and hoping that it is your chance to win a tournament.Horses should be winning tournaments based on there ability and how well they where placed not just by pure luck.Like you said it costs alot of points to enter certain tournaments and if training your horse is not going to tell you if your horse is good enough to enter these tournaments then i dont see the point at all.HRF def need to address this issue.Bring more skill into the game and less of the blind luck. And give us more control of our horses instructions for the races.

Yes fixing the code to change the default pace instructions is quick and easy. But, keep in mind that any fixes to the private game would then have to be deployed to everyone in an upgrade “patch”. This is the part that is time consuming, and right now HRF has all techs trying to get the new web site and viewer ready.
So if HRF would agree to one more patch before everything is completely moved to the web, which is more than a year away (see Puddles’ post), then they would need to fix more issues than just that. Whether they will or not remains to be seen.
Regarding horses running in tournaments like they would in training, I don’t think it will happen, and probably shouldn’t unless the game gets a complete overhaul. The reason is because in order for this to happen, ALL STATS of the horse need to be sent to the trainer game. The savvy techie guys with all their DAT-file-reading “skill” would have a much easier time knowing which horses to keep without even training, and the big stables with their larger bank rolls would dominate even more. Newbies would get frustrated quicker, and the game would suffer.
On the other hand, my stable is down to 3 because I’m not happy with the direction things are going. I don’t like the fact that trainers have access to many of the horse stats, but I kinda don’t blame them because training is almost useless. Seems to be a Catch-22.
Some possible solutions (if anyone is still reading):
1. Horses run exactly in training as they would in tournaments (requires web viewer only). No hidden information sent to users computers.
2. Instead of racing over and over to find the best distance and surface, the idea is to shift the focus to the details. You train with multiple variables in an attempt to get the most out of the horse in different situations. In order for your horse to run to its potential (birth SR?), you must figure out its preferences to the following options:
--2.1. Pace Strategy (like the old days)
--2.2 When to Move
You can indicate when you want your horse to make its “move” (go all out) to finish the race.
--2.3 Lasix
User option to run training races with Lasix applied or without.
--2.4 Blinkers
User option to run training races with Blinkers applied or without. I’m not sure if HRF was working on a blinkers program. If not, then this option is moot.
--2.5 Bits
User option to run training races with different Bits applied. (Program already in the works).
--2.6 Shoes
User option to run training races with Shoes composed of steel (the default), aluminum, or plastic. (Program already in the works).
3. Remove any horse stats that make some horses race poorly when changing surfaces. This has no place in a tournament structure game.
Devil’s Advocates
HRF may argue that this would make it too difficult for casual players. Possibly, but with help from mentors, it could be overcome.
Big stable owners may argue that they don’t have time to train their 300 horses to figure out all this stuff.

I agree with Jaycat completely. To go one step further, I would like to see the pace instructions that are used in advance settings used in the tourneys. Why the jockey instructions are different between the advanced mode and actual tourney play has been brought up so often that it is something that needs to be fixed.

I wore out a brand new pair of glasses while reading that.
lol
All I ask is that the default be set on "natural style" so that We don't have to click on it for every horse (Remembering, of course, to clear the Blue streak after each change or it reverts back to "Faster"). Thus it will only take One hour to train a group of horses instead of Three hours.
This will hurt the DAT people, not help them.

...this issue Jaycat. I practice my horses in Advance Mode at least 90% "True Running Style". This gives me a better view of what my horse may do in tournaments, will he lay back and make a run like a closer? Will it do what it can to keep itself out of traffic trouble? I want to see what it can do first under its True Running Style to understand it before I start manipulating the other available options. The other ten percent are Sprinters at short distances or middle distance horses that run like sprinters and burn themselves out early so then I can use the other two options. The change recommended will help shorten the time a trainer spends in advance mode by making this one adjustment.

Less than 10 times I actually went in and changed it to go normal. What I do is get a horse I know likes a specific surface or distance and train them against a new horse. I dont let that get out early nonsense effect me. I know what I am looking for in a horse to see if it will be good at any distance. So if HRF wants to change it to normal I dont care. It hasnt effected my training at all this get out early command because I rarely use it in tourneys and like I said I already I know what I looking for when I train. I have adapted my training around it.
This setup has been in place since I started and it hasnt stopped me from winning. So if HRF changes it then everybody in this thread will have no more excuses why you cant win. You all sure you want HRF to change it? LOL

a great deal here to read and take in, yes i agree it is annoying having to change that button all time to to run own style it would be nice if it just done it at the beginng.
but it is still a puzzlement how the horses never give same sr in tournaments as they do in training, i had a horse last week in final and it looked like it deliberately ran into the centre of the horses and got completely blocked in i couldn't believe it when i saw it, as i did click avoid traffic when possible lol.
but anyway i am in agreement with all that was said here

Say you setup a race and it dont matter how many horses. If every horse is running on get out early then there basically voiding each other out and like I said if you put in a horse you know likes the distance then theres no need to go in and manual change it to normal. I cant you people been wasting your time changing it. LOL
Setup, 5.5F dirst fast, All the new horse or horses, community horses, then for this purpose I would use magic fairy dust then I run the race. If they keep up with magic fairy dust then they should be able to run sprints. It dont matter if you set it to normal, get out fast or break slow. Heres something funny if there was a command take a shit at the break that wouldnt matter either because ALL THE HORSES WOULD BE FORCED TO SHIT BEFORE THEY RUN THE RACE.
HAHA
30 sec
JBC you are arguing without understanding the situation.
When you train against YOUR OWN horses, then yes, the "Run Faster Than Normal" MAY void each other.
When you train against COMMUNITY HORSES, They do NOT run "Faster Than Normal". THEY run "Natural Style". Only YOUR horses "Run Faster".
And THAT'S the problem.

I dont really train against community horses anymore so perhaps it doesn't really affect me... but when i originally started i was thinking upon the same lines, why go faster... why not set default to normal throughtout training.
Then a thought came to mind. If a horse can perform exceptionally well at mid or long distance with the option go faster. Then the horse should have plenty to give when set to hold back or normal in tourneys.
My final test would be to set the correct pace for the distance and all go faster, and generally 1 or 2 runners standout as best at that distance and surface.
Just my thoughts. good luck all!

I agree 100% Jaycat. By the way Blackcaviar, Leerockali, Originaleerock, you will get totally different results training against your own horses, than you will against community horses. Its just like running your horses on the days date rather than on the early, mid, late season dates. Judging by your success in the game, it could be your problem. Just my opinion, not fact.
Or is it?

Yeah, let's get it fixed.

I agree with comments made by Jaycat. After watching my horses run in thousands of races I am coming to the conclusion that it does not matter what instructions you give ,the computer ultimately does its own thing.Training for me is a waste of time.I never train against pool horses.Only run my horses against each to choose which horses to use.I enter my horses in races, watch how they perform and only keep those that can win or be placed in tournament finals. After the current finals are run I will not run any horses in blues, greens dirt sprints. In most races it is like watching alottery draw.

Flyingdaaka pretty much agrees with Jbcri, though Flyingdaaka would like to express it a manner that you wouldn't see in a mental institution.
People don't really get what training can or can not do. Flyingdaaka's horses in private mode training pretty much run fairly close to what they will do in a real race. There are exceptions, no doubt about it. But training is simply to give you a basic idea. Let your eyes tell you what you see. Don't get caught up in making all these ridiculous changes. Setting the horses to "run normal" or default to "run hard early". LOL.
Please. It's all part of that paranoia syndrome you people suffer from.
Get comfortable with a group of horses (community or otherwise) you want to train against. Run them against your horse. See what happens. Go from there. Don't run your 130 against a bunch of horseass community horses, or some of your old slobs from yesteryear. Be objective. You people set your new horse up against a bunch of junk, and get excited when it wins by 15 lengths with a big SR. Then you come back after it gets crushed in a tournament whining about how it didn't duplicate that effort. LOL. And some of you have been around for years and still either pretend to not get it, or simply don't get it.
Laughable.
1 min 43 sec
Daaka is right, training is only a guideline for your horse. I use training for surface and distance, and I try not to train the horse over his head when training. Yes it says run faster but I just change it to true running style and it works every time for your horse. The ONE you are training at least.
The real way to get an idea on your horse is train them during a tournament. Tweak , tweak and retweak during tournaments even if you lose a couple of races. It's a lot better than training your horse in your player 100 times, only to find out it sucks in real tournaments. That is a waste of time.

OK, an experiment. Run Fifteen training races using the exact same criteria for all Fifteen races.
Same horses.
Same distance.
Same track.
Same EVERYTHING.
Pick ONE of your horses in the race and Race Five times "Run Slower Than Normal".
Then Race 5 "Run Faster Than Normal".
Then Race 5 "Run Natural Style".
Look at your finishes & SRs.
Now tell me it's all the same.
lol
Do this experiment with a distance race.

Being in the game a little over a month and training all of my horses the same way trying to keep them all around same bsr not to put any way over there head. That being said i never even knew it was set up that way but makes a lot of sense to me now. when i breed a horse I race him against ones similiar in bsr and i control the one i am training.. There is NO reason whatsoever that any player wouldn't want "Run Horse In Natural Style" to be the default. No reason except One.
Think about it. You're testing your horse to see if it can do, say a 12 F run, all the other horses will be running in their natural style, but you want to run your horse FASTER than normal. LOL.
Ridiculous.
It's not even a question of "Figuring anything out". You're reading way too much into this.
This is simply a button to expedite the training process. The very same way that the Same Horses Button did.

I agree with post 31 because if you think about it if you train a horse at his "normal running style" and the rest of the field is at "a little faster than normal" does that mean we are actually getting training results for "slower than normal"??? (i hope that didnt sound confusing)
