There shouldn't be any new player that signs up, that doesn't go through the Mentor program.
It doesn't matter what part of the Game that new players are looking to play.(Jockey,Bettor,Trainer).
Initial success is the key on retaining players.
I know of a lot of players who started out without a Mentor, including myself, and the record speaks for itself.
You waste a lot of points when you don't know what's going on.
However, since there is a Class System in all tournaments (Jockey,Bettor,Trainer) it's a lot easier. But based upon Newb threads, obviously most new players need some help.
We need to promote the Mentor program more!
I believe we lose a lot of players because they simply don't understand how to play.
Should the Mentor program be mandatory?
What can be done? Any ideas?
***For Daaka---
"Everything comes after the new Web-Player comes out!, WE KNOW, ALREADY!"
LMAO!!
I have said this all along. The ammount of new players that leave because they dont know what is going on and find things too complicated.I think that when a new player joins it should be mandatory to sign up to the mentor programme straight away. Also having said that it takes alot of time to mentor students and when you have 3 students at a time it can leave little time for anything else. There needs to be more mentors on here.Sometimes you have 3 students and you are recieving pm from other newbies that are asking questions aswell. This is def an area of the game that needs looking at as there are loads of new players leaving.

Can someone please mentor me?
I'm not really the Mentor type!
I'm the self-appointed Head Cheerleader, Forum President,Rebel Leader,Rabble Rouser!
I can teach you how to Cheer, but when it comes to actually playing the Game...I suck!
This Game used to be all about breeding a high BSR horse, but thanks to the efforts of many, and a site owner who cares, it now involves a lot more strategy.
A Mentor can help any new player form a winning strategy!
Obviously, some Mentors are better than others!
But the vast majority of Mentors, in the Game, are better than NO Mentor!
Stevic, I agree, the program should be mandatory!
Sometimes I wonder why I even have the badge. Haven't had a request in ages. And the thing is, I've never gotten a single bad rating from any of my past students. I don't get it. Oh well, I'm available to help any new students who may be searching for a mentor.
Joe
It's like anything else!
There's a list of Mentors, and whoever is at the Top, gets the requests.
I mean, Lord Outstanding has a million shed votes, what does that tell you?
Nobody reads through anything, whatever is at the Top gets the votes/request.
Heck, whenever I buy anything new, I don't read the instructions, I just dive right in.
So think about it, I'm in the Top 2% of smartest people in the entire Universe, and I don't read instructions.
Do you think the rest of the 98% do?
Come on!
*For players who don't know me......I'm just kidding (sort of)!
LMAO!
i dont think there is a shortage of mentors but there may be a reluctance by some of the mentors to taking on some of the sixteen yr olds who are sending requests ....
Probably but if that is the case then they should not be a mentor in the first place.
stevic11
We understand that, Blair!
But the Mentors at the Top of the list reject a lot of students because they're always full.
Then after a couple of rejections, the potential student gives up.
Just like Joe posted here, and Tyolds and others have posted in the past, some Mentors never get any request.
Some Mentors don't care that the student is sixteen and may or may not spend points, but the players at the Top of the list get the pick of the litter.
I'm just saying there needs to be a better way to hook students up with Mentors!
Vas maybe it can be done automatically when you sign up the computer
assigns the mentor from the list of mentors just an idea dont know if it is possible
Im trying to get you as mine. Any reasson this is not working?
