Horse of the Year: Zenyatta or Curlin?

This topic has probably been exhausted everywhere, but lets give it one last run. If you had any say in Horse of the Year, who would it be? Undefeated super-freak filly Zenyatta or 2007 Horse of the Year and so-so horse this year Curlin?

I think its obvious I prefer Zenyatta, given the bit of a knock on Curlin for this year. Don't get me wrong, I think he was fantastic last year.. but I remain on the opinion that he isn't as good this year and the surface he ran on shouldn't matter. Zenyatta's done nothing wrong, except for not taking on the boys yet, can't really knock her.

my thought goes to who is

my thought goes to who is the best horse and not who had the best campaign in their division. So could Zenyatta beat Curlin head to head. My thought is probably, but we will never know. So I would vote for Zenyatta thought most times I would in this situation would say Curlin.

They both ran Horse of the Year careers

Well, they both ran horse of the year careers. But this is a tough one. I'd probably go with Curlin only because he broke Cigar's money winning streak. Zenyatta's a real nice filly, but if you think about it, she didn't beat much in So. Cal. The California distaff division is always weak. And plus, Curlin's going to retire at the end of the year, whereas Zenyatta's gonna get another shot at it next year.

Zenyatta vs Curlin

That is a good point about going head to head. First, I favor Zenyatta for HOY. Second, if they were to meet head to head, I really think Zenyatta would run Curlin down -- Rag to Riches did and I don't think she is as good as Zenyatta. And I think Zenyatta would beat Curlin on either dirt or synthetic.
As for Horse of the World -- could Zenyatta beat Zarkava?? Now THAT would be a race. Of course, Zenyatta never raced on turf and Zarkava never ran on anything but turf. However, put them both on synthetic (and the Europeans proved they could run on synthetic) and I think we would have one heck of a race.
Lastly, I think it is time for the Eclipse awards to step up to the plate and have TWO horses of the year -- one for males and one for females. After all, there are now TWO BC days, one for males and one for females. Then both Zenyatta AND Curlin could be HOY. Of course, that won't happen this year, but I think it is time for something like this to happen -- not just in Thoroughbred racing, but in Harness Racing. Quarter Horse racing, etc.
Any thoughts from the rest of you?

Zenyatta or Curlin

I have to say that The horse of the year should go to the undefeated horse. How often does that happen through the year against other grade one participants? Hands down.... Zenyatta.

something to think about

Your points are valid. Possibly a good idea too. However, since they're calling it horse of the year, this is one horse only of either sex. I'm leaning towards the filly, Zenyatta, over, Curlin and am glad to hear of plans to race her in 2009.
In my opinion, Zenyatta is superior to Rag's To Riches, who, as you said, beat Curlin in the Belmont Stakes. I agree, this would put Zenyatta ahead of, Curlin for Horse Of The Year. JMHO This does not mean that I wouldn't be happy if Curlin takes the title. Tough decision.

Curlin still in serious training

I think it's important to mention here on this thread, that Curlin is still in training and the Jackson's are possibly planning one more race for him this year, 2008.
If that becomes a reality, it is this race, in my opinion, that will be the deciding factor for who wins Horse Of The Year honors. Soooo, all we could do now, is sit back and wait to see what happens.

I really like Curlin and I

I really like Curlin and I think he is a fantastic horse! I think he deserves horse of the year because of the competition he has run against, even though this year may not have been as good as last year. Zenyatta is yet to be tested against colts, so who knows if she can compete with them! Even though i like to think that the sex of the animal doesn't matter, because the best horse will win, regardless of gender.

Going to stud next year

It was announced on the bloodhorse that Curlin will be retiring at the end of this year and going to stud duty. He is an awesome horse and I don't think another horse will be able to beat his earnings at over $10 million unless the right horse comes along.

Zenyatta

I think horse of the year honors should go to Zenyatta because she is undefeated and she is one remarkable filly. I have also heard that she may get some time off but I don't know if it is 100% true. The Breeder's Cup Ladies Classic was the 2nd race I watched with her in it and going away winning. I love her running style. I know everybody would like to have a filly like her and the Moss family should be really proud of her and her accomplishments. Zenyatta all the way!!!!

I really like

Both of them.
Its hard to chose between such superb athletes. I am happy Zenyatta's connections are bringing her back. I guess since she is sticking around and will probably [knock on wood] do just as well next year, I am gonna go with her. :D
They should send her to him when she's retired. I know, he won't even be a proven sire at that point, but that would be great.
