I just recently set up a race of some of the top 3 year olds and up males of 2007. I figured I'd share the results with all of you, and ask about your own "dream races."
Here's the field for my 07 Dream Classic, run at a mile and a quarter on dirt at Alberquerque.

And then they were off(click links to see screenshots of race)

Lawyer Ron and Hard Spun quickly went to the lead, followed closely by Lava Man and Wanderin Boy.

Soon Lawyer Ron relinquished the lead to Lava Man, while Hard Spun continued to stalk in second. Those two pulled away from the field.

They stayed in the same basic order for a few furlongs. But then Curlin was making his run for the lead, with Circular Quay to his inside. However, Circular Quay got caught behind Lawyer Ron, while Curlin got through clear to take on the leaders.

The rest was history as Curlin drew off to win by five over Hard Spun.

Favored Street Sense finished a dissapointing 9th, but Curlin proved his dominance over the field, finishing over 10 lengths in front of 3rd place finisher Any Given Saturday and posting a 115 speed rating. Unlucky Circular Quay managed to get past Sunriver to clinch 4th place, and the full order of finish can be seen below. The final time was a brisk but not breakneck 2:00.29.

Some things worth noting about the race, including turn loss, bump loss, etc:
- Any Given Saturday lost 7 1/2 lengths on the turn. Had he perhaps gotten through on the rail, he could've gotten 2nd.
- Circular Quay technically only lost a short head when blocked by Lawyer Ron, but that only counts physical contact
- Curlin's speed used was 3966, compared to Hard Spun's 3796, Any Given Saturday's 4095, and Circular Quay's 3825
- Curlin still had 580.8093 energy remaining at the end of the race, the most of any horse in the field. Second most energy remaining was Any Given Saturday's 132.8704
- The 11-1 exacta paid $95.20(funny, that would've been one of my bets lol)
How about you? What do you think of this race, would you like to see more races, and what races have you held before?

Hi, Budtug -
Loved your post, your pictures and documentation. Your description was very cool. I would like to invite you to become a contributor writing one or two blogs per week on fantasy racing to be featured on the home page of our Horse Racing Fantasy Community. You would pick up a special badge as a Blog Author. I would also provide you an additional 3,000 points a month (whoopee! - I'm sure that's not the reason why you would do it). If you want, I can also provide you with a moderator badge that would allow you to help moderate, manage and watch over the forums.
ou can respond back to me through private messaging with my "puddles" ID. I would at this time also like to thank you for your business, your support and your contributions to this community. If you're too busy, believe me, I understand.
Thank you in advance anyway.
I love the way you put that together. Excellent!

May they all come home safely!!!
Thanks so much you two! I'll be sure to set up a few more races. Right now I only have the one file, but I can use community horses as well. And I actually have the old game as well, with every file that was released for it. But that's not as visually exciting, of course.
Alrighty, here's another race for you all(I bought the best females of 07 with my community points, so I'm on a filly race kick), the 6f, $1M Antimony Stakes for fillies and mares 3 years old and up. Also, the horses have short PPs because I recently had an issue with my game(the new files weren't downloading) and re-installed it, and haven't gotten around to playing too terribly much since. But it's useful for these purposes.

As you can see, Daisy Cutter is the 5-2 favorite. In her three starts she's made a total of $256,000, with a win, place, and show. She's the lone speed in this race, giving her a definite edge. Precious Kitten is the only other horse that likes to be even near the pace, so if any other horse is to be given a chance, Precious Kitten will most likely have to try for the lead.
Dancing With Dynomi and Red Fantasy are co-second choices at 5-1. Dancing With Dynomi is still a maiden in two starts, but one of those starts was on the dirt, and the other a mile and an eighth on the turf. If she can pull it together at the shorter distance, she has a good shot. Red Fantasy hasn't been racing in the same kind of company as Daisy Cutter, but she's proven herself many a time already - she's only been out of the money in one of her six starts.
Madame Winn is an interesting mare at 6-1. After placing 3rd in her first start, a dirt route, she moved to turf sprints, where she won 4 in a row before being ridden by budtug in a dissapointing 4th place finish as the favorite. A jockey switch brought about another win before she tried to stretch out, placing 3rd. She then came second in two consecutive turf sprints, and won her last time out. She has, however, been posting lower speed ratings than the others in the field.
Demonsteed is probably the most worthy bet at odds of 8-1. She placed 3rd in her debut before coming back to win three in a row. She's going for four today. She's been posting similar speed ratings to Madame Winn, who is the one of two horses(the other being Mahalo) that beat her in her debut. However, Demonsteed outgamed Madame Winn to the finish in her most recent start to win by a head.
Those are the top contendors in the field, that is, of the horses that have raced before. With all the first time starters, it's highly possible that we could have a surprise.
And now to the race.
They all broke well, with Daisy Cutter breaking sharpest and immediately going to the lead.

Daisy Cutter still held the lead as they finished the first quarter mile in 22 and 3/5 seconds, with Demonsteed unusually close to the pace in second and All Bidder a few lengths back in 3rd.

After a half in 45 and 1/5 seconds, Daisy Cutter still led but Demonsteed had given up 2nd to Simply Perfect. Precious Kitten was making a noticeable run to the inside, but was still in 7th as they came off the turn.

Precious Kitten slowly picked off horses, but she couldn't get to Daisy Cutter by the time the wire flashed by, with Daisy Cutter a good three lengths in front.
http://i33.tinypic.com/2rwqb1z.png
She continued to draw away as the field galloped out, with good energy left.

Precious Kitten got second by a length over Grand Illusion. Both were double-digit odds. Demonsteed, after trying to go with Daisy Cutter early, beat only one horse - Heavent Sent(the longest shot on the board). The entire field was covered by only about 11 lengths. Daisy Cutter posted a 105 speed rating while covering the 6 furlongs in 1:09.10 in wire-to-wire fashion. Here's the results chart:

Hope you enjoyed! I'm thinking of doing featured races for blogs, focusing on community horses because there isn't much discussion about them. And I think if people shared the performances of their own community horses, they as a whole be able to handicap races more effectively with the community horses. Plus, these guys are just as exciting and varied as real life horses, once you get to know their own tendencies and such. For example, I've noticed that Happy Gilmore tends to wait on horses once she gets the lead, and therefore have been working on timing my move exactly right after 3 consecutive 2nd place finishes on her where she got caught at the wire.
