I'm am very excited about the domination of fillies and mares that have come about in 2008. Typically we'll see one or two that are exceptional each year, but we have seen quite a few galloping out of the gates this year. Zarkava. Zenyatta. Goldikova.
It's been very exciting to watch their brilliance and turn of foot in action. And let's not forget Pepper's Pride who remains undefeated in 17 lifetime starts. And of course it would not be good of me to leave out Eight Belles who finished second in the Kentucky Derby to only bested by Big Brown.
Well I need to finish my coffee so let me know if I have forgotten anyone!

Krista, I know your talking about this years fillys. But, let's not forget Rag's To Riches. Remember her defeating, Curlin in last years Belmont Stakes. I agree. We have some nice fillys this year. In America and in Europe.
and Ginger Punch is no slouch. I know she didn't do very well in the ladies classic, but she had a great year and just wasn't her best on the synthetic surface.
For 3 year old fillies, who do you think wins eclipse champion 3 year old filly? Music Note beat Proud Spell once, lost to her once, but finished pretty well in the Ladies Classic. Is it enough to put Music Note on top of the 3 year old filly division? It seems quite close!
It will also be interesting to see what Stardom bound does next year as a 3-year old.
Of course, cannot forget Rags to Riches. She was capable of a feat where so many have failed in the past. She'll always have my respect. I do enjoy Ginger Punch, she is a knockout- no pun intended. I've always liked Hystericalady as well, although perhaps she is past her prime?
Most of my favorite racehorses are fillies. Azeri is one my most recent faves in the last 10 years. Also enjoyed Silverbulletday, Storm Flag Flying, Round Pond....again I know I'm forgetting plenty.
Always fun to see the fillies do well.
one filly whom is very deserving of her accolades:
Oujia Board.
Don't forget about Proud Spell this year. She doesn't have the same turn of foot that some others have, but she digs deep, and she tries, which is more than you can say for a lot of horses around the world today.
