Secratariat is the Best male and horse that has ever lived and will most likey stay that way forever. He made 3 track records for the Triple crown in 1973. Slowly making his way from the back of the pack he surged up and won the Preakness and the Kentucky Derby. But the day of the Belmot Secratariat showed everyone something they would never see again he one the Belmont by 31 lengths. This was a record that would stand then and still now and most likely forever. Secratariat has changed the way of horse racing forever!

Secretariat had.............

a huge heart-literally. It weighed about 22 lbs. An average thoroughbred's heart weighs about 9 lbs. Secretariat's average running speed was 37.8 mph.

Here's more Secretariat facts....

Well,

my previous post was meant to provoke discussion, but I guess it didn't work. Before I get started discussing Eclipse, I must say Secretariat's Belmont Stakes was the most awesome display of racing supremacy I have ever seen or expect to. It never fails to thrill me.

On May 3, 1769 Eclipse was entered for the first time, running for a plate valued at 50 lbs. at Epsom. The event was contested in 4-mile heats. Before the 2nd heat a man named Dennis O'Kelly made a wager that he could pick the complete order of finish. His wager was "Eclipse first, the rest nowhere". In those days if a horse was "distanced", he was determined to have not finished the race. I don't recall now whether being distanced meant beaten by a furlong or just what, but Mr. O'Kelly won his bet. He raced through that year and the next. In many races the winning call was "Eclipse first, the rest nowhere", many others were walk-overs, because no one was willing to face him. He retired to stud in 1771 unbeaten in 18 starts. He is now the direct male-line ancestor of virtually every Thoroughbred alive today. When he died, one of his hooves was made into a goblet, gilded, and given to the King of England. I expect it is still treasured to this day.

A BIT MORE ON ECLIPSE

Eclipse was the first known racehorse to have an enlarged heart or carried the large heart genes.. Before him, there is no such nowledge of this and people have researched looking but to no prevail..
his heart was found to be 14pounds ,the same size as the great pharlap

Correct me if im wrong , but i think the large heart gene is usually passed down thru the ladys,,,, meaning , lets just say secretariat(who also carried this jean along with pharlap ) was put to a mare!! and then they had a daughter !! then that daughters offspring is where you would find the large heart gene and usually the better race horse..... ap indy is a great example...

It was not often that secretariat himself would produce standout superstars or even a good racehorse,,with exception for a couple, compared to other known great sires,,,like carbine or northern dancer or that english sire (forgot the name) that carbine stood at stud next to for years in england after he finished his breeding career here in downunder.....the great nijinksy came from carbine...,,...but secretariat did produce the mighty kingston rule who won the 1990 melbourne cup in the fastest time ever record(3.16) and still to this day(20 years later) this time is still not beaten.... i remember when kingston rule won cause we had to pick numbers out of a hat at school and that would decide what horse you got,,,i got the phantom chance, which came second 3/4 length down,,..

SON OF SECRETARIAT...... KINGSTON RULE,,,FINAL 600 METERS MELB CUP

Secretariat

I've only seen YouTube videos of Secretariat's Triple Crown races, but they are awesome to watch! Secretariat's Belmont Stakes win is definitely the single greatest Flat racing performance of all time!

Not hating on big red, he

Not hating on big red, he was a true great, but does everyone forget about Count Fleet? He won the Triple Crown too, and he won his Belmont by 25 lengths. Now everyone always says no one has ever come close to the margin of victory of which Secretariat won his Belmont by, but 25 and 31 is not too far off. No one has done it SINCE Big Red, but one has done it before him.

I still to this day believe Ruffian is even better than Big Red. There are many factors as to why I believe this. Their running styles were so different, both take extreme talent to pull off and win by. Big Red was a closer, Ruffian a front runner. Big Red had to have the gas left to pass everyone, Ruffian had to have the gas to keep everyone behind her every step of the way. Ruffian won her races in dominant fashion and broke track records constantly. She was undefeated. Big Red was not, not holding that against him but if he HADN'T won the Belmont by so many lengths I don't think people would regard him the same way, because there were other TC winners before him.

Both are great horses, and I would have loved to have had them both racing at the same time. It's no secret Lucian Lauren stated he believed Ruffian was better than Secretariat, we can only dream now what that match would have been like.
