Does anyone else think that putting all the filly and mare races on Friday positively stinks? I would have hoped that the Breeders Cup people could have been a bit more creative than having all the female specific races on one day, and all the other races on the next day. What could have been the purpose of this idea?

Doesn't bother me that much. We seem to adopt to any and all situations. Time seems to change everything. We actually hear little or nothing at all about the one Breeder's Cup race that is actually a steeplechase race, run on a different day/month. I think thye still have it, but I'm actually not sure. Poor advertisement. IMO
I dont like the idea of grade 1's being a friday where many people will not have a chance to watch. Why not Saturday and Sunday if anything....I guess football owns Sunday...just seems like a bad idea
are the bc races going to be available on the interenet to watch live. im stuck working the 24 th and 25th
Actually, I'm not sure. Why don't you set your VCR to record while you're working and view at another time. We've had to do this for the last several Breeder's Cup days, because we always go to Pismo Beach, California for the Dixieland Jazz festival. The dates always conflict. This year, we decided to stay home and relax and watch two days of exciting Breeder's Cup races.
Sorry, I didn't know where to post this, but I just wanted to update everyone. John Velazquez was thrown from his horse it broke down in Keeneland's 6th race. he was violently trampled by the horses behind his, and we all need to hope he's going to be okay. He's definitely injured and if anyone else hears anything, I'd like to know.
I pray that the outcome will end well. I haven't heard anything until your post.
This is probably posting a little late, but The Blood Horse reports that Johnnie V is recovering well and is expected to be released from the hospital today. Both horses involved in the mishap avoided injury as well. It does give one pause, though. It's a dangerous game that we love, and incidents such as this serve as a reminder that these animals and these people put their lives on the line every day for our enjoyment. Bless each and every one of them.
Sorry about the misinformation, as I was reporting what I thought I'd seen while watching the races live. The horses involved clipped heels rather than break down, and both came out of it rather unscathed. Johnnie V did get released from the hospital yesterday, and it has to be considered a minor miracle he wasn't injured worse than he was, for it was one of the more violent spills I've witnessed in a long time. Good luck Johnnie, hope to have you back in action by Breeders' Cup Day.
At least everything turned out fine for the horses involved and the rider. I'm glad of that. Probably the worst spill that I ever witnessed, was on watching a rerun of a harness race on TV. Usually they have eight horses going a mile, around two turns.
Well, half way down the back stretch, sulky tires started tangling with other sulkies up front. This started a chain reaction and every horse got involved and they were all going down in a tangled mess, with the drivers being tossed through the air like rag dolls.
My memory has faded, so I can't say anything about injuries, or possible deaths. It was bad though. The worst that I've ever seen.

The BC races should be available on ESPN360 on Fri and Sat (I'm not certain of this, but they were on last year).
The Breeders' Cup had some big disappointments today as two big winners from the past weekend will not run on at Santa Anita at the end of the month. Vineyard Haven, winner of the Champagne, will pass on the BC Juvenile, as Bob Baffert said he may point for the Hollywood Futurity instead. And Zarkava, who may be the best horse in training right now and undefeated winner of the Arc d'Triomphe, will not run in any of the BC races. And to connect this to another blog about the best horses in the game being fillies, Zarkava is a filly! Should still be one best days of racing ever
