Well this sounds whiney but i think i speak for all unlucky trainers when i say that all we breed are low SR horses! Please Puddles!! Make at least 90% of the horses that are bred everyday decent!
I really like the idea of giving out better horses, but I think they should be given to me only at first. Just to test how this all goes. I have the street cred and the fancy foot work. Then after say 10 or 12 months after they have been tested, some can be doled out to others.

My fingers are tired. LOL If you could think of something, that's great and should be shared. Keep in mind however, in all probablility, it's been thought of and discussed before. Of course, new members wouldn't know this. There's always soooo much on Puddles plate, that most ideas are just that. Ideas. That doesn't mean that Puddles doesn't listen to us. He does. He switched from computer handicapping the finals to human handicappers. Now, many aren't satisfied with human handicapping. My suggestion would be to go back to computer handicapping. Not the old one that had serious flaws. But re-program so that it workks to the satisfaction of most. Persoanlly, I don't see this as a difficult assignment.
I'm still dying for a career mode version of the game, but seem to be in the minority. Although in an update almost a year ago Puddles mentioned it being one of the next things to come out, but not another word about it since. Anyway, I think the best and most realistic ideas that have been passed around recently are the "same horses" button for ease of training and maybe the addition of "maiden" tourny's for the trainer game.
Flyingdaaka has no clue what a "career mode" is, loosie goosie. Maybe you could explain it to the many that don't have a clue as to what you speak of, so maybe you could garner some support for an otherwise irrelevant idea. Flyingdaaka has seen you plead for this in the past, but it lacked the support from other members.

A private mode game where you campaign your horses through a realistic career from the real races on the "career mode" race list in the game. Trying to win prestigious races like the Ky derby and Breeders cup races, etc. and win year end awards like real racing. Basically a horse racing simulation.
A private mode game ??? LOL. There you go again trying to campaign for the ability to run your horse in fields of 1 or 2 again. LOL. The trainer game is realistic, already lots of quarterly and year end awards available. Why not take a more aggressive approach into it. Put the ole loosie goosie body in the water, instead of just the toe.

"At Least Temporarily"
Blues dirt & turf 8/04/2010 8 for 30 all scheduled to run barely.
I thought we ask Hrf to limit the number of tourneys. Seems like they placed a month of blues in the tourney look up. With this many tourneys people are getting confused and cant decide to enter or wait weeks.
Most Blues that start 8/06/2010 or later have 0 horses in them and none are scheduled to go currently. So they have 6 days to go on the 8/6 ones and looks like none will run.
This sad pattern might mean the Blues are on there way out. The instas recently are slowing down to minimum participants. The instas are basically gone. We have currenty 5 claimers in the next 2 days.
This class system might have made things fair to some horses but looks like it has destroyed everything. Its not a news flash when I tell you people that some people have insta there stable and quit since the change to blues.
Its not worth entering blues when you have 10 of 20 entrys. If you get 20 horses than its worth it. But the entrys have been going down each release of blues lately. So the fix maybe to offer a bigger BSR spread like 100, 115, 125 below. Even that might not work. Blue horses only offer 2 sufaces at 3 distances.
Recap I believe the instas & blues are on the verge of disapearing. We have lost several middle to tiny stables do to this change. People said we changed to stop low ballers and offer people with a 90 horse some where to race there horse. I say most people dont want a very poor to average horse. Most want to enter generals and go for the big points.
We lost many members, instas are empty and the blues are almost extinct and hrf raised its takeout to 32% vs 20% from before. I would also add that the breeding has gone down meaning most horses are blue horses. Maybe 95% are blue and 5% general. So the question I have is what did we gain by this change?
Good read, John. I know you must put a lot of time and effort into having a handle on all this. Although I'm retired and put a lot of time in the game, I don't have the time to watch and analyise that close. I do make the effort though.
I just have too many other things going on outside the game to break it down like that. I don't know if you're 100% correct. That doesn't matter though. This is how you, a long time member sees it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It seems that whenever a major change takes place, it has affects on other things.
I do like the idea of a class system though. Personally, I think that we're going in the right direction, but certainly realise that we must voice our concerns and offer suggestions, all for making the game better.
I have not problem with the class system. My issue is its about the end. Today I retired 7 horses out of the blues today. They ran 1 tourney and now there gone. I have recently retired a bunch blues because looking at the blue tourneys they seem not filling. Some blue tourneys I have 3 horses in them. I have 3 of 12 entrys. Thats sad on my part and also the part if I am not in them they would not have run.
When I first came to Hrf I supported the instas will almost 300 entrys to date. Not just me but a few players ran alot of horses in the instas. Most of us that provided the horses and made the instas successful are not in them anymore. So the decline of the instas is not surprising do to the biggies are not in them anymore.
If the big stables say NO to blues then whats going to happen to them? They will end up in the same path as the instas, which are dead. I have supported blues probably more than any other stable, but I will not be entering new horses that I bred into them. I rather spend points on generals than blues that cant run with full entrys.
I know a few players that supports the blues with alot of entrys. I know some players that will only enter generals. Eventually you may have to enter 10 of your own horses to have one of these blue tourneys to run.
The blues and instas are still doing OK for 2 year olds. The 3 year old division is where the blues and instas are failing miserably. There are several factors at work to make them fail.
1) There are a number of members who still are having problems dealing with now being unable to enter great horses into low 1k and 2k tournaments. They are running them in the 7500 entry fee tournaments, which draw full fields and are getting killed. They of course, are against the blues which caused this.
2) HRF is saturating these levels with far too many tournament options. It appeared they were cutting back fairly recently, but seem to have added on tremendously as of late. Not sure what the motives are for it.
3) With multi-accounts being closed, it seems the blues lost an awful lot of horses due to it. Far more than anticipated.
4) Jbcri is right about one thing for sure. Most people want the fast horse instead of the blue horse. They want the chance to make a ton of points and be feared in the community. Flyingdaaka thinks a lot of people tried out the blues in the beginning and stopped. The blues, as Flyingdaaka pointed out earlier, were full of equal horses causing traffic issues and a huge increase in post position importance. Many trainers don't like entering the blues, feeling they have no edge over the other horses.
Something did have to be done about all the low-balling. It got out of hand. Hopefully the blues will come through and succeed, but Flyingdaaka isn't banking on that to happen. Nobody could blame HRF if they went back to the 'breed the fastest horse and enter it where you like' route like before. It would make perfect business sense.

I'm not buying that so many people have quit the game because of restricted tourny's. I for one bought horses and increased my level of play in trainer tourny's solely because of the class system, and i'm sure i'm not the only one! What in the world is unappealing about having a place where EVERY horse can compete rather than the game only being about breeding in hopes of landing that 10% horse who can compete at the top?
If you are deciding to retire your "blue" horses and not participate in that part of the game, that is your choice, your not being made to do it. I can assure you that a game with a viable class system is far more appealing to most than one without. Is'nt the game supposed to be about "racing" rather than "breeding"?

Seems like if everyone breeds great horses that they will just be average. The key here is to make each race or tournament competitive. I see that everyone wants to be the best but can there really be 500 bests.
You crack me up!
I had the pleasure of chatting with Mrtman yesterday.
I know who his Mentir was, trust me, his Mentor had nothing to do with his brilliance. LOL!
I told Mrtman he had one of the good Mentors.
Daaka,to Tman's point, in the last month I've entered 4 Instas.
I won all 4 and all 4 horses got claimed.
Did I all of a sudden become a genius trainer?
Or am I sacrificing high BSR horses, running against much slower competition?
The more the game becomes about proper training and competition, and less about high BSRs, I believe the quicker it will grow.
I apologize once again for all of my shortcomings. Can you suggest a way that I may be able to rectify my faults.
By the way, I love that link on your profile page.
Nobody is perfect. I overreact all the time. hehe Thanks, which link is that? there are two :)
Suggestions hmmmm just be natural, don't be sharp, don't be flat, just be careful what you say and why you say it. I can't force you to like me, and if you still don't then in your heart none of my suggestions will work for you. :/

They want every horse they have to be Secretariat, doesn't take much effort or skill to win with a Secretariat.

That mrtman is quite astute. Wonder who his mentor was. No doubt, somebody who contributed to his brilliance.

I am new and don't know what has been tried yet.
I would like to see aucions and private sales and maybe joint ownership.
Single races that aren't claiming offered daily in all ranges.
Have more larger field races with surface set but conditions random along with maybe a 50% scratch refund.
