Cloud509 and I have been exchanging ideas on bettor tournaments and he seemed to like this idea. I'll share an excerpt of my PM and ask your opinion.
If you would like me to fantasize about a different style of tournament, how about something along these lines. A once weekly tournament with a bettor entry of 2000 points which is easy even for a non-VIP to manage. 20% will go to HRF, 40% to the tournament winner, and the remaining 40% to be divided equally among each of the races in the tournament. Just like now, each player will pick the winner of each race. All who correctly pick the winner of a given race would split the points allocated to that race. If only one winner, he collects it all. If no one picks the winner, the pot for that race goes into the tournament winner payout. The tournament card would be the same for all and available for wagering 24 hours before the race. I would like to see the card made up not of community horses, but of horses from the trainer game. Many trainers seem to complain of having no place to run their horses. I suggest they be able to enter their horses with an entry fee (which could vary with the class of the race) of which HRF would again get their %. The rest would be purse money divided among the top finishers. Race conditions could be published a week ahead with entries closing 48 hours before post. Keeping this weekly would give bettors something to look forward to, get them familiar with the game's trainers and their horses (perhaps inspiring them to try the trainer game) and also a chance each race to recoup some of their entry points. Trainers would have a chance to run some horses they might not otherwise have a chance to and perhaps help pay some stable fees. The potential for grudge matches and bragging rights would be huge. I realize there are probably many problems with this idea but that is a basic outline of this particular fantasy. What do you think of this melding of different aspects of the game? Ken
I didn't specify in the PM but the winner of the bettor portion should be, in my opinion, the one to accumulate the most points, which may not be the one to pick the most winners. Any thoughts on this concept?

got a horse with nowhere to run? higher stakes in the bettor tourneys with your horse entered might be just the place. bet him to win, or if he's not very reliable, bet on somebody else's horse. either way, this can be another way to keep your cooped up horses active and earn some extra pts. maybe enough to pay some or all your barn fees, or enough to buy a 133SR super horse.
anyway, check out bigken"s super idea of combining trainers & bettors. here's a challenge to all you handicappers who are hiding out there.

Ken and cloud. If you notice under the Jockey Game heading there is a thread about
participation in Jockey Tourney's. In that thread there are several explanations as to
why folks would not be interested in any high stakes bettor or jockey tourney's.
I reset my database several times the last few days in order to get my 6K daily points
quicker. I WAS NOT ENTERED IN ANY BETTER/JOCK TOURNEY'S DAAKA SO DONT YELL AT ME !! :P
"Cold Croc Ya" at 9-2 is much better than 4-5. "Here Comes Thunder" at 4-1 is
so much better than 4-5 and you dont even have to press any buttons. And when
"Nuttin But Net" comes in at 26-1 you better ride him. You have a great shot when
"Miricales" comes in at 34-1. Just Sayin.

Great job explaining it Sam. Now, next week, you will still probably see some oblivious post asking for more participation and ideas on jockey/bettor tournaments, followed up with more denial from empoy.

Did you happen to notice that this proposed tournament would not involve community horses and that odds would be irrelevant in determining the winner? This is merely a suggestion to address the system gaming problem.

when signing up for tourneys, players must hit " I Agree" tab that says " if i win community pts in this tournament, i agree to have my race card along with my winning picks displayed with tournament results".
