I`ve been running 2 mile races and its a blast. There is a community horse that is unbeatable at this distance. She has won at 2 miles by 41 lenghts, in 3.21.58, no matter where her stamina meter is you give her a tap and she just goes like a bat out of hell. Any one else try the long distances? Try it out, I wonder how fast can you go 2 miles. Gus

Hi, Gus, I absolutely love the 2 mile distance. I race that distance often, usually, if not always, on the grass. Some handle it well. Others just can't get the distance. Give me time, I'll try to figure out who your community horse is. Possibly I've raced him too at that long distance. I like going to England, Scotland, New Zealand, or Australia for these 2 mile events. If you haven't done that, Gus, try it. You'll see such a variety of track configurations, which is so appealing to me and makes running there, so exciting.
Oh, I'll have to compare times too. I have a race at 2 miles saved that I plan on sharing with everybody when that option is available to us. It was with a horse from before the fifties that won. If I do share this, it is because, I want you to see the tote board. Horse, in my opinion, should have been favorite. It paid around $450.00 to win. I'll give you a hint. He was a son of Man O' War and raced on flat as well as over jumps, in America and England. I won a lot with my Hugh win bets.
Your horse is a female. I'll do some research I'm thinking, Dancing ...... ......... mind went blank..... Can't think f full name. It will come to me. LOL
I dont route race too often...I usually go 8f or less....I like the sprints for some reason
I`m sure you`ll figure out who the 2 mile roadster is. I usually do race on grass and you are right the european tracks are pretty cool. I have several races saved also to share with everyone, looking forward to that feature in our game. Good Luck, Gus
Almost unbeatable at 2 miles
Nep, this was my guess, but my mind went blank when I was trying to type her name. I put down, Dancing, instead of Dancin, then forgot the other two parts of her name ( Dancin With Dynomi ) .
I love this horse and have done well with her. As a jockey and as a better. She's easy to ride and so responsive.
After replying to Horsebuggy's post, I put her in a 2 mile race in England, along with several other good one's. She won easily, pulling away ( about ten lengths ) , on the grass, but was about two seconds slower than when she ran for Horsebuggy.
Looks like you like those 2 mile marathon races too.
Dancing is good but there is a better one.
Gosh darn it, Gus. I thought I had it. The other poster did too. My works cut out for me now. LOL .I'll keep looking. But, today I'm off to a day at the races at Golden Gate Fields with my girl friend. Wish me luck. I usually do well.
I'll be able to bet on the Jockey Club Gold Cup. I think I'll pick, Curlin on top, then pick a good one to come in second, for the exacta.Of course, I'll be betting other tracks and am curious how the new synthetic track plays out at Santa Anita. I'm not sold on these designer tracks yet. As far as a horses safety, I think we need more data.
....Battleship. He was a son of Man O' War. I only know because soundofrum ran a kind of quiz in an earlier posting a couple of months ago. His pedigree is here. Can't guess on the female horse, though--I'll have to try a few 2 miles races sometime!

Glad to see you jump in on this, Ken. Battleship is an interesting horse, with interesting stories surrounding him. I think they could write a good book, or even make a good movie about him.
Did you know that he not only won England's Grand National, he also won America's version of that same race. The only horse to do so. Plus, as we've discussed, he raced on the flat as well. At least in America.
The youngest jockey ever to win the Grand National in England, was aboard Battleship that day. I think he was 16, or 17. I don't think anyone that age has won since. Kind of reminds me of Liz Taylor in Natioanl Velvet. Same time period. maybe that's where they got the idea of such a young jockey? I'll try to figure out Gus's 2 miler. He gave us a hint when he said "she".

Gus, I just took Tweedlebaum ( 4 yr old male horse) to New Zealand and raced him against 9 others, of cheaper class, at 2 miles, on a soft turf course.
At 1.5 odds, he won by an unbelievable 86 lengths. All computer generated. I didn't ride him. His final time was 3:31:69.
I saved this race to share with the community when that option becomes available. I think this has to be your horse, If not,I'll keep trying. It must be him. He belongs in anybodies stable. After the race, when he was half way around the clubhouse turn, I could see way in the background, the others just then crossing the finish line. The replay of the stretch rub is fun to watch. You have time to go into the kitchen and come back with a fresh cup of coffee before the second horse crosses the finish line. Simply amazing.
Not on grass, of course, but I grew up remembering the days when the Jockey Club Gold Cup was contested at two miles. Assuming the Wikipedia entry is correct, it was two miles from 1921 through 1975.

It's interesting how the distances of some major races have changed over the years. The Kentucky Derby comes to mine. Also, the Kentucky Derby wasn't always the first race of the Triple Crown.
Remember too, Ken, that Belmont Park use to have jump races as part of their daily program. Did you know that Belmont Park had that long diagonally placed straight course running from the back stretch to the home stretch? I remember seeing Nashua win a big race, I believe as a 2 year old. on that long straight 3/4 mile distance. No turns.Nobody talks about this now. Maybe they don't know.
In 1955 at Bay Meadows, they did something cool. They created, in the last race of each Saturday, a marathon series. Week one started at 1 1/4 miles, then week two, 1 3/8 miles, then 1 1/2 miles, then 1 3/4 miles, ending on the last day of the meeting, at two miles.
This was soooo exciting. I'd like to see some track do this again. Of course, Bay Meadows is being demolished as I type.
This series was very appreciated by the fans and to my recollection, were horses on the lower end of the class scale. I think the track handed out special awards, but 5 decades later, I don't remember. I know they weren't Stakes caliber horses. It was so fun to see the horses negotiate 4 turns in that 2 mile event.
I'm all for bringing back more of these marathon events in America. Maybe our breeding strategy's have to change in this country.I admire what they do in England in regards to stamina type horses.
Hi, I tried to send you message but you dont accept private messages. Was going to name the horse. Gus
Gus, Not sure why. Maybe a setting problem. Also not sure how to e-mail anyone. Or if that's possible? A few people want to have me on their buddy list, but since I'm new, I don't really know much about this, or how it works, so so far I haven't responded in any manner. I've learned a lot on this board though, about so many different things. Be patient everybody. I'll get there. LOL Not trying to avoid anyone. Lots of nice folks here.
How about GOLD GRIT won for me and I was riding won by 14 lenghts Grade 2 rae on the Turf at Calder.
Joe
I am having fun with the 2 mile races. It takes a lot of riding and good tactics to win consistantly. I`ve tried different horses and won with a few, but there is a mare out there that is nearly unbeatable at 2 miles. You guys gotta find her it will be worth your time and effort. Good Luck, Gus
