You have to love the students who dont show up for not one lesson
Or answer not one of your PM'S and then proceed to give the mentor a bad rating
Like you as the mentor owe them something Well my last 2 students taught me something
they taught me not to accept students who are not serious about this great game I guess
that they were just in the program for the 25k points

i no where you are coming from ruffian15 i had a student do the same thing never asked a question never said hello and did not reply and left a bad rating. Other then that all my students have gone on and down great things for the game. Wish them well.
It`s hard to no who is who when they first request you. I take the risk and accepted any one :o)

who find themselves in that situation. It must be very irritating and a large waste of your time and efforts.(seriously)
All i can say is, i hope they have wasted all thier bonus student points on slugs and donkeys and/or were just 'fly-by-nighters', got bored of the site, and are never to be seen again.
Maybe the points shouldn't be given until you have reached a certain landmark or point in the game, or even the 2nd or 3rd time you reach that certain point in the game or whatever? Make 'em work for it!

I fully agree with you guys, BUT- my last student, SAINTANDREW, has won over 1 million in earnings with five horses, and one of them is a two year old with 500k to his name. I can't take all of the credit for his success, but, he was a great student. I wish they were all like him. We spoke every day, he always either had good questions, or intelligent comments, and seemed both knowledgeable and eager to learn! I had one student ask me two questions, both on the same day, never write me back again, and rate me as a bad teacher! That pisses me off! Don't ask for help and then either refuse it or neglect even asking questions! How can people ethically do that?
I still like helping people regardless, but wish they were all as serious as saintandrew.(Good luck bro!)

I totally agrre with ya Ruffian ... I have had some bad experiences too with those type of new players ... Especially the ones from other countries ... I only now accept ones from the USA .... Here is a copy of my message I send back to those type of players who ask me to be their Mentor !!
Hi there ... My question is : Before I become your Mentor here on the game to help you out to learn the game .. I need to know If your gonna be serious about learning the game and wanna play the game regularly to learn about how to train your horse and entering trainer tournaments with your horse ... ALOT of my past students I had were new players who joined the game and asked me to be their Mentor so I can give them ( ALOT ) of my information In ( easy step by step Instructions ) I have on the game on how to do things in the game ... and once they joined for about a day (or) two on the game ... they ( ALWAYS ) seemed to NOT get back on the game for weeks to play it (or) even keep in touch with me as their Mentor to ask any questions about the game they don't understand ... then the Games Moderators on the game here end up having to send me a ( Reminder Notice ) to send to my students who are not being ACTIVE in the game and that they have 48 hours to respond Back to that ( Reminder Notice ) and If the students don't respond within the 48 hours .. Then I get another ( REMINDER NOTICE ) sent to me from the games Moderators telling me to ( TERMINATE ) that certain student ... NOW having to ( TERMINATE ) alot of my students because they are not keeping in touch with me Periodically during their Student Course Gets ( VERY ) Annoying !!! ... That's why I need to know If your gonna be a seriuos player of the game and want to learn it !! ( or ) If not ... It's a waste of my time and knowledge of the game becoming your Mentor !! ... Thanks K-n-b-stables !!!!

I am a new student and my mentor (who happens to be fantastic) has posted in this thread. I'll leave it up to everyone to figure out who it is. I have had a great experience so far but there is one "surprise" you might say that could cause good students to go bad (sounds like a tv show huh?). The following is no fault of the mentor and may get me in trouble but I want to be truthful.
I would suggest mentors discuss the "freeness" of this game very early in the mentoring process. The game is advertised as free but I am quickly finding out to experience the full fun of the game, players need to become VIP members. I haven't been charged my first stable fee yet but I can tell your points get ate up very quickly if you can only max out at 1000 points a day.
It would be very helpful for a mentor to address this right away. If there are any tips on how to play successfully as a non VIP member they should be shared right away. I understand the game owners have costs and need income to keep the game going etc. I like the game so well I am fairly certain I will become a VIP member. I just want to see what happens in a months time when my stable fee comes due. I wonder how long I can survive on 1000 points a day if I' m winless in jockey and trainer tournaments.
I believe some new players don't realize this and when they do figure it out they just quit or don't come around very often and who do they take it out on? The mentor of course, give him/her a bad rating and there ya go, a bad student is born. Again, this is no fault of the mentor, just a tip to weed out those "bad students" quicker and before you accept mentoring them. My mentor brought up the stable fee from the get go so I knew what I was getting in to.
Thanks to all of the people willing to mentor...especially the person who is giving of his knowledge and time to mentor me!

I quit as a mentor. I have only had a couple of good students. Who really wanted to learn the game. I will help anyone out but from now on If they want me to be mentor It will only through conversation and help. The benefits of being a mentor are non exixtant when 99% dont ever appear online.
I try to help others and hope I have made a difference in their understanding the game. but if students get 20k for doing the mentor as an incentive I cant see why the mentor cant have 20k as an incentive. So far I have had just 2 student gain me any points. And I spent a lot of time with both so feel I earnt those points. But apart from them maybe 20 students no reward and no response. Mike acknowledged some time ago that the mentors were not being rewarded and was to review the situation but never did.
Good luck mentors but I am done with it all.

what you are saying mayibe a bit of the reason but why give the mentor a bad rating because of
the cost of stable fees, VIP fees, and only being able to receive 1k in points a day. The mentors have no
control over these things. And the other thing is why not answer emails sent by the mentor or set a time for the mentor and student to meet for discussion. What I am saying is there are a bunch of other factors here beside stable fees
2 weeks 26 min
I wished I could have had a mentor, but the program didn't exist.
But there were many in the community that helped me, and I figured out a few things myself, and I can give good advice about the free game. At this point, I can be more competitive because of some very successful and wonderful students, but I remember what it was like to "settle" for the free game and play it the best I could. But you're right, It might be helpful to have that discussion early.
If your student gives you a bad rating, you can add a comment to the rating letting the world know that the student was always absent, to protect your reputation. But after a certain number of bad ratings, do we get fired by HRF? If that's the case, they need to take into consideration the bogus bad ratings, and not count those against us. I had one student accidentally give me a bad rating, didn't mean to, but we had a chat and got it sorted out, some bug in the system. Support was very helpful.
1 year 23 weeks
I definitely agree. The mentor should not get a bad rating just because a student realizes he/she may have to pay to enjoy the game to the fullest. They just take it out on the mentor because they have no one else to take it out on and it is one last parting shot. I don't believe it is right but I think it probably happens that way some of the time.

I don't have time to waste on free loaders. I don't offer my services to just anyone. I have no complaints about honest, legitimate players, but it's not that easy to know who you're dealing with. Through posting, I get a feel for people. Some I'll help. Some I won't.
Simple as that. I think some just want the free points.

...help people that want help for free, with no future benefit, through pms and in the forums than be a mentor to someone who doesn't really want help and doesn't show up, but has the ability to rate me BAD as a mentor.
I guess I can understand someone not really wanting help and working the system that way (don't like it, just understand it) but why do some of these people go the extra mile to rate us BAD, when they could more easily just leave it alone? I actually have 4 bad ratings from students that never asked one question.
How do they know I'm bad? And why would they want to do that? What benefit from such behavior could there possibly be?
I don't get it.

Mentoring is the source of income that has kept my stable competitive. Someday when I don't have a hubby(may he last many more years) and chitlins (may they graduate from school and become financially independent soon) to consider, I'll go VIP, but in the meantime, mentoring is my business. :)
And I've had some awesome students, diamonds among the lumps of coal that have been well worth the effort, not just in bonus points, but in making their acquaintance. My favorite graduates: Archon,Kindur, lastdayofwork, richie, bajejock, mowgal, quintin, copperdollar, horsegirl, and torpe, you all made my mentoring fun, and I wish you all the best of luck, even when I can no longer profit. And archon and kindur have returned the favor and helped me as well. You guys are awesome!
Got some current students too, that you'll have to watch out for some day.

I have been a mentor now for 2 months and have had already 5 students graduate from me as their mentor ... But It seems like I'm not getting any Bonus points from off my Past students as being their past mentor ... Aren't you suppose to earn Bonus points or earn percents of points from your past students when they purchase something or win something in the game ??? .. please explain this part to me about earning those bonus points .. or Am I even right here about this earning bonus points after your students have graduated !!

From what I have seen of the bad ratings I have recieved 3 of them were from the system as those students havent been back on the site since a day or two of their signing up to be a student and then one of them I think I was awarded by a good student who never gave me a grade so the system graded it bad as an autograde.

For those that are mentors. There was a small glitch at the end of my session with Shelbyjoe in which the
link I needed to follow to grade Shelby had disappeared from my page. After a quick fix by IT the link was
back and I could give my thumbs up grade. So, if you are in regular touch with your students and they do
not grade you check into wheather or not this glitch has occured. You deserve a good grade.
I also still think the mentor grade from the student should default to good (if the student does not respond).
thanks

Sam,you need to have been a member for a minimum of 4 months, run at least 500 races in community mode and purchased at least 5 trainer game horses before you are eligable to apply to be a mentor! Hope this helps buddy! ;-)

Are we getting auto-generated bad ratings when students are forever awol????
KNB, you get bonus points when your recent graduates join as VIP, earn money in tournaments, or purchase points.
There is I believe a 45 day post graduate window in which you can earn these points, after that, no more bonus. And you don't earn bonuses when they are still students, so if they go VIP while still a student, you don't get points for that.

"And you don't earn bonuses when they are still students, so if they go VIP while still a student, you don't get points for that"
This is perhaps the biggest problem with mentor/student program. It is assanine to not be credited with mentor points while your student becomes a VIP. What is Flyingdaaka supposed to tell his students..."Oh, no you don't, NO VIP for you until you are finished !!! Until the end of the program, its jockey tournaments and training only for you !!!!"
The first thing Flyingdaaka does (after the introductory dicipline period and discussions about proper etiquette in the forum) is to recommend with the strongest emphasis that the student, if serious, become a VIP. The benefits are certainly necessary, especially for new players. Flyingdaaka is wasting his brilliant sales skills to benefit HRF, and get nothing in return.

So daaka what your saying is that Shelbyjoe will get no benifit whatsoever from my purchase
of points ($49 given to HRF) and my VIP membership ($10 per month to HRF) simply because I
made these purchase decisions WHILE I WAS BEING MENTORED .. not AFTER ?
Come on Mr P right is right and that aint right lol

I agree with Dakka's points,HRF seem to be the only ones gaining from this! Mentor's are basically only being rewarded with a pat on the back rather than any real bonus! I am happy to help students whenever i can if they go vip or not but it would be nice if HRF could recognise the benefits the mentors are bringing to there profits!

Your a great mentor and person for that comment Frost.
I still think the rules should be changed however :D
You are giving your experience and knowledge as well as being an ambassador
of the game. If money is brought to the game while you are 'in session' you should benifit.
One point I want to make to everyone. Please do not confuse money with points. Money
goes into the bank account of the owners of HRF. Points can be created out of thin air
like magic. Won in trainer, jockey and betting tourneys. Earned by posting on the forum
or blogging. etc etc etc.
So giving the mentor points is costing HRF nothing. What is being asked for is a change
in the way the game awards points to mentors not for HRF to give mentors money.
Thanks
Sam

I just think that in generral Mentors are not rewarded enough for their efforts. for this reason unless someone begs me into submission then I will not accept any more requests. Like Frosty I will do my mentoring for anyone for free. Help in anyway.
My mate and former student Bob became a VIP literally 2 days after the 45 day period and whilst it was not his fault It annoys me that all the effort I went too to help Bob in understanding different aspects of the game and eventually along with others getting him to VIP status I am rewarded with zilch.
Sorry HRF but only mugs will do a teachers job for nothing.

i think we have too many features in the new version of this great games but some of that just make benefit to certain people. Be a mentor, involved in challenge buddies program, betting, jockeying etc.. the latest is be a handicapper..you can't do everything or you can't catch up all this..sometimes its not fair and in other word BS..
