Hello all, my name is Jessica. I'm 16 and have been following racing for 5 1/2 years. I am an active member and an official blogger on the TVG Community, where I go by the name of BetterTalkNow.
I have a bit of a fascination with the La Troienne female line, and therefore my breeding program thus far has been focusing on obtaining multiple crosses of the super broodmare in my horses. My only horse at the moment is Animosity, a son of Buckpasser out of Outstandingly. Animosity is inbred to La Troienne through her granddaughter Busanda, the dam of Buckpasser as well as Outstandingly's granddam Finance.
I'm currently in the process of researching a second breeding, this time to one of my favorite horses in history, Easy Goer. For those who don't know, Easy Goer's dam Relaxing is inbred 4x4 to La Troienne(her sire is Buckpasser and she traces back tail-female to La Troienne). While Alydar does not have La Troienne in his pedigree, he does have an occurance of her sire, *Teddy.
Easy Goer is best known as the rival of Derby-Preakness winner Sunday Silence. He is credited with winning the 2nd fastest Belmont of all time(behind Secretariat's, of course), and running the fastest mile on dirt ever by any three year old in the 1989 Gotham Stakes. Personally, I believe he had more raw talent than Sunday Silence, after watching all of both of their races and doing a video blog on the two of them for TVG. Either way, I'm considering 3 prospective mates for him - Personal Ensign, Inside Information, and Smuggler.
I'm leaning toward Smuggler or her dam Inside Information, because Personal Ensign was, of course, bred to Easy Goer in real life, producing Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies winner My Flag(who in turn produced Storm Flag Flying), but I'm wondering if breeding two late-ish runners may be less productive than breeding a mid-pack horse like Easy Goer to a front-runner or stalker like Inside Information or Smuggler. Smuggler had a little less stamina than her dam, but I'm not sure what to make of that in my breeding decision. Any advice on who to breed with Easy Goer?
(oh, and sorry the post was so long, I wanted to fully explain myself lol)

go with what you are feeling, you have all good choices there.

I would say Personal Ensign simply because I use her as one of my regular breeding pairs that I have had some good luck with in the past.. Her and Twilight Tear have produced the best I have gotten. Your research sounds very good though and I can't wait to see what you come up with... Some have told me that breeding now is strictly random as far as pairs are concerned and that there are no hot pairs. However as indept as this game is I would expect to see a reasonable payoff for you with such sound research. My gut instincts tell me that research like yours should put you on the right track. I don't believe it is as random as people have been saying.

Thanks for the advice everyone. So far I've bred 3 horses, one of which seems to have some decent potential, that being the original Buckpasser x Outstandingly colt. I bred Easy Goer to Smuggler and got a fairly bad colt, and then tried Risen Star x Winning Colors on a hunch. The resulting filly I'm still trying to figure out, but she doesn't seem to be that good. Animosity(my first colt) destroys her whenever they race together.
I'm still addicted to my La Troienne research, and in fact did a study of the top 50 rated stallions in the US to see how much of an influence she is in their pedigrees. An astounding 21 of the 50 had La Troienne at least TWICE in their pedigree. Tapit has her SIX times. Completely remarkable how this mare has influenced the sport. Maybe I'll make a post here about her, just for fun. Any racing fan who doesn't know her name needs a history and pedigree lesson. =D

Awesome knowledge of pedigrees! I'm a pedigree buff myself and tend to think in terms of real life when planning my mating, however I don't think it really has anything to do with the results of the game horses. You might find this website fun to toy with though, I love it: http://www.equineline.com/Free-Hypo-5X-Pedigree-Sire.cfm On the other hand though, my best horse to date has been one that I bred with "real life" ideas in mind. She's Bold Forbes x Two Lea, which results in a dosage of 8-4-11-3-0 2.06/.65 with inbreeding to Bull Lea 4x2, Bull Dog 5x3. I bred her based on the old addage "return to the sire the best blood of his dam". Anyway, welcome to the game and good luck! By the way, its probably best in the game to just pay attention to which sire and dam's are working best together at this time, which comes and goes in cycles. Get onto a "hot pair" and you'll get good ones at a higher percentage than otherwise.

Hi, I do pedigree consulting and have been somewhat sucessful at it. My best was an Oklahoma bred named Silver Goblin GSW 1 mil+. He is best known for running 2nd to Cigar in the Oaklawn Hdcp during the win streak. He also ran in the Preakness. When I started this game I thought I would have an advantage from my breeding knowledge and bred fantasy horses like I would in real life. IT DOES NOT WORK. Your addiction is a valid one. The La Troienne line is a great tail female line. One of the VERY BEST.

Thanks for that advice, I guess I'll try to keep an eye on the hot breeding pairs instead of focusing on pedigrees when breeding my game horses.
