Just wondering when training has anyone discovered a horses liking different seasons for different surfaces? For instance i have one that likes mid on turf but late on dirt...is this normal?
i think it is normal, the horse is just showing us they like a few surfacers but at different seasons? i have a few like that and what i've also found out some of my horse's like different distance's,how bizarre is that.that's like an allrounder what we call here in downunder they adapt.
Just got more difficult to find right tournaments but since i find it harder to compete i need to lose that "LAZY TRAINER" status (LOL) I also have some that can run 5-10F.
Thanks,
Mod. I have a horse who's pr says it loves all surfaces but seems to do much better on dirt in my game, and not so good on the others. I will now have to try that horse on all surfaces again, different seasons and age.
Dont forget that some horses change what they want to run on from year to year. Might be a good dirt sprinter at 2, then a turf router at 3, and so on. Not for all horses, but some will do things of that nature from my experiences.
The only problem is that the horses wont tell you when to change. lol
Flyingdaaka seems to notice a big improvement from his horses immediately following a "retirement ceremony" in his stable. Something about that shotgun that seems to get the horses to step up dramatically in performance. Suddenly, distance, season, surface, and elements of that nature don't seem to be nearly as important.
None of them like late season. Too much ice and snow and the cold air freezes their alveoli.
I have a 3 year old who has one distance and surface he excels at, outperforms his potential every time, but of the last 10 tournaments posted for those conditions, they were all late season, where the horse is a dog. Sigh.
Too many variables, hard to keep track of them all, and the past performances chart for us non-VIPs only saves the last 75 races. Not enough to account for the variability. Sigh again.
But mid season is coming on, the mosquitos are out, and the reality horses are ready to ride, so I'll be okay.

seem to have a seasonal preference.
