If I were to venture a a guess, I'd have to think that this figure would be after the takeout. I say this because when looking at the tote board and see the total (win pool), (used here as an example) , which is the grand total of all the money combined that was bet on all of the horses entered in the race, this is after the take. That's what creates the odds that we're looking at for each horse. I haven't kept up to date on this, but in California, it was always around 15% to the state. Say a horse is listed at 2-1 on the tote board, you will get back $6.00 as you know for every $2.00 bet. Well, if the 15% wasn't taken out at this point, the board would probably show something like 5/2 odds, or 3-1 odds. So, what you're seeing on the tote, in regards to win, place and show bets, these figures are after the takeout.
Hope this helps. I'm sure it must be the same with the trifecta pools. JMHO
Maybe ill post this on drf or pace advantage since we have a difference of opinion.
I wanted to know because the tri pool at timonium sunday for the last race was roughly 15k.
I was trying to figure what affect a straight $ 2000 bet on the tri would have on the payoff.
The tri paid 150.00 for $2.
So a 2000 bet you would get the $2 tri 1000 times.
at 150.00 that would equal 150,000.
But with only 15k plus the 2k added there is only 17 k .If that is before the take then the amount left to be paid out would only be about 13k.
So how would a bet of 2k affect the payoff.

Almost always, a pool total has not had the takeout factored in yet, but payouts always do.
