It always seemed like the perfect spot, i mean
Rachel will want to be there cause its a G1 on the surface she likes plus she's won over that track multiple times and its at 1 1/16, a distance that will favor her.
Zenyatta will want to be there cause she ran one of her career's best race on that track in that race in 2008 romping over a field that included 2007 Champion Older Female Ginger Punch. She posted a 104 Beyer in that race, the 3rd best of her career.
Plus it give time for each of them to get in one prep, Zenyatta in the March 3rd Santa Margarita and Rachel in the race of her choince at the Fair Grounds meet.

It will happen at Oaklawn as I predicted and I will be there. Not the Stephen Foster as General said.
She will also run in the Dubai World Cup. Ive been around this game a long time and the Apple Blossom is the right spot at the right time.

If it happens, it happens. And like everyone else, I'll be looking forward to it. For me, it will be especially nice, because, I'm not a fan of Match races. There'll be more horses entered. Thanks for the heads up.

Both horses have to be in the lineup, else the purse goes back to $500,000. Makes sense to me.

Zenyatta's camp has stated they planned on running anyway. So, if Zenyatta runs and Rachel doesn't, the purse goes back to $500,000...are the fans going to decide not to watch or attend the race? Hmmm, if the two champs run, why wouldn't any other track put up $5 million to do it again (based on ratings & profits)? How much hype would there be for THAT race?! ...if they split the two races...hehehehehe...nice big marketing drive for Breeders Cup! Nice!

The fact they raised the pot to 5 million is key for Zenyatta. This should draw the best filly and mares beyond the big 2. Zenyatta needs speed and a pace to run at, this will help draw the best. Third place in this race would not be too shaby...

Dont forget the most important thing hidden amoungst all this hype and purse increase...
Business men in this game dont just throw an extra 4.5 million on the table unless they have a sure fire plan to get it all +plenty more back...

My question is will the extra funds, publicity for only the 2 great ladies be enough for this return?? i dont think so... yes there will be loads of cash spent i understand this however money makes money.. i really believe that while ALL hype is focused on 2 champions you might just find a couple of international champions invited under the table and under the radar.... i think there is plenty of time for them to be flown in and quarrantined efore april ( i think)
They have stated in media they want to make this special... They have already extended the race distance to suit both these ladies so was a purse rise of 10 times needed??? again i think even 2 million would have been enough bait.... I will be very very suprised if the full field is not very HOT... and in saying all that i have a sweet spot for zenyatta.. i love big strong horses and at 17hh..she is strong as an elaphent.. ( i cant spell either)

You have a good point. Money makes money. I don't know if they'll set the race up as a match race or not. From the hype it seems likely.
If both 'Zen and 'Rachel run I don't think they'll be much competition. Fillies and mares of the same crop as 'zen and 'Rachel have been thoroughly beaten by both horses.
An International flair would be nice. But, Neither owner will risk having their horse have the slightest chance of getting hurt in a race with a full field. Too much is at stake- 'Zen- undefeated & Rachel- HOY.
If both 'Zen and Rachel run the track will make a TON of money. Both horses will go off at real short odds- that always makes money for the track no matter what horse wins. Th publicity for the event will be worldwide which also genrates money for the State and the track.
It would be fun to watch. I'm sure both 'Zen and Rachel will not disappoint the fans. I'm a Rachell Alexandra fan. To me, she is the reincarnation of the GREAT filly, Ruffian. Looking forward to seeing the race, if and when it happens.

the race is at this minute a invitional stakes and all of the horses who run they will only carry 123 lbs and it will be ran at 9 furlongs not 8.5 furlongs. and neither zenyatta nor rachel is running in the dubai world cup because zenyatta was not nominated to the race and rachel's owner doesn't like the polytracks or plastic tracks as he calls them.

If you folks have Youtube, as I suspect, you could most likely watch it there. That's what I do.

If you pay for their subscription you can watch live races through online stream, just check the NTRA racing schedule, they show all the big races on HRTV.

Another option other than horse racing tv, or HRTV, is TVG- Television Games. I know here in the States we get a live feeds for Australian races, races in England, Ireland and Dubai. Plus, the major tracks all across the USA. The web address is www.tvg.com. Check it out......
