I've about had it with the jockey/training instructions. Will someone please tell me how to use them?! Again, why can't I train the horse in practice mode, race the horse and see how the instructions affect the horse?! I've had several horses receive instructions to slow down and they've done the opposite. I've trained horses with long slow gallops and they speed off in the race. I don't think the instructions have the intended effect. I know some horses don't follow instructions but I shouldn't have to guess how I should train them. Yes, the instructions affect only about 10% of the horse's performance but they're screwing up my horses. Just spell it out and that's all I'm asking. Thank you.

This is just what i have found with my little stable.
My horses have a prefered racing distance etc: 8f. If i am in a race of 8f then i will choose race according to style. But if i enter same horse in a 6f race i will ask to go a bit quicker than normal. If i enter a 10f race i would then ask jockey to slow down a little at start. I have seen improvements by adopting this metheod.
As for training i'm still working on it but this is my theory.
I start the tournament with a long slow workout(presumably helps stamina) and as tourny progresses i shorten and speed up workouts(presumably helps speed). Am trying this over next few tournys and see if any improvement.
This is my theory and not sure if right so anyone is welcome to correct or add.
Cheers.

I must admit i also find these a mystery , all i do is apply them and keep a record and use what i think works best if i reach the final . jmacca , i would be interrested in your finding ,look forward to your update.

I very rarely use anything other than ride horse in accordance to his racing style. I just find my horses run better under those conditions. I prefer to play around with the distances of the tournaments I enter them instead. If the horse is on the bit going a route of ground, I drop back in a sprint rather try to harness its speed going long or I stretch them out further and drop them in class.
My horse Upclose N Personal is a good example:
http://www.horseracegame.com/community/race_record/24055
The horse kept wanting to run :22 and :44 going in sprints using up his energy against 10,000 entry types and couldn't keep up. I stretched him out and dropped into a restricted 4,000 entry. Now he runs :22 and :45 but doesn't have to deal with the pressure and he simply runs them off their feet.
Hope that helps

I like the theory of a set distance and going slower for futher and faster for shorter.
The bit that bugs me is how my horse runs 110 in a race with mocking the exact conditions 3 races running. With the same instructions I then use in a tounament and it runs and SR of 83??? I know they say that they train better than tournament races but by SR of 30.

he just happens to run MY horse off his feet! I tried to get Spy Clown to slow down and make one run but your horse has sped up the whole field! So, your horse has influenced this thread! ;)

From my experienced..we can see our horses running with their true own style especially for surface and distance that they liked..although their setting were set by trainers, they still give their true running style in a races..Our setting just can make 10 to 20 percent change to our horses running..if the style on lead they still leader, if they came from farback they still also and so on...At this time you need to look back your horses SR either can compete or not..if this hard to compete now you need to drop their class as ronwar said....

and it's only theory - I have not yet been able to apply it myself!
Logically, since pace is the only thing missing from tourney workout/training instructions and pre-race workouts/training is the only thing missing from the practice mode these 2 things are probably related.
In a tourney I think the pre-race workout/training, the race distance and the surface (and prolly consistency) all dictate the target pace for your horse. So for any given race you can probably alter the target pace using the workout/training instructions.
The range of pace probably changes with the other conditions... so in ideal conditions you probably have the ability to change the pace quite a lot - but racing outside of ideal conditions probably narrows the range of pace available - the ideal pace may not even be possible... probably depends on horse talent.
Now the practice races in personal mode allow you to explicitly set the target pace for the race... so you can try different jockey instructions for different paces (and distance and surface which you've already selected).
So the practice training allows you to work out what jockey instructions yield the best results for a given race at a given pace.
Maybe one riding instruction will prove, on average, to be the best instruction for the other racing conditions regardless of pace (unlikely though).
But you should be able to learn what distance & surface your horse can run well over using different paces.
The hard bit is figuring out what target pace your horse will run at in the tourney - and how you can change that pace to suit your horse.
I guess if you use training to simulate a tourney race as best you can (remember, the other horses will effect your performance too) and then, in training, alter the target pace up and down you should be able to compare your racing performances in training and the tourney and work out what pace was used in the tourney race.
After doing this for a few tourney races under differing conditions I hope a pattern emerges so that you can figure out what instructions (workout/training & Jockey) to give for any given race and conditions.
But I'm a long way off of seeing the pattern just now!! And it seems like too much work to me... so I just race them at roughly the right conditions and let them run their own race... hence the poor racing record of my stables!
But - and this is the important thing - I'm enjoying myself!

I think once the new bits roll out I think we will get better control of what pace we want the horses to run

I also let my horses run their own style. I tried giving instructions for a while, and they did worse, so back to running their own style. I also did the same as Ron with one of my sprinters that was doing the same. I didn't go as far as Ron did with his, but he is now competitive with the horses at the longer distance.

My first tourny is about to get underway so all this is new to me.
However i am a very fast learner and know a little from real horse racing.
My observation from many many many comments here is thissssss....
IN advance.....
You are giving instructions or controlling your horse against computer generated runners.
IN tournament all apponents have had specific instructions by their trainer(not by computer)
Now as in real racing, if your horse is a frontrunner and left alone his SR would be close to same as advnce mode (if conditions suite)
If as a frontrunner others attack you and force extra speed obviously the end result will be somthing from behind will swoop over all of them. This will cause your SR to be horrible and the swoopers to be awesome..
Racing is a funny game as we all know. As members have stated many times the outcome of a tournamet race depends highly on instructions.
The problem you face is this........ if 5 frontrunners then you have drama as a frontrrunner.. if your the only frontrunner your chances of winning improve ( all this depends on the class of opposition also as stated in above comments)
Studying the feild is very important when it comes to entering specific races and giving instructions i honestly think. If your horse is a (far back) or closer then the way the race pans out will determine your finishing SR.... if your blocked at the 3f mark when your horse is trying to move your energy will drop fast, if the jockey gives your horse a little tickle mid race your energy again in problems.. i feel in avance mode it is easy for us to get our horses WINNING often and mainly having good (no interference ) races... hence consistant SR's
TOURNAMENT is full on bumping, blocking, best man wins stuff so the final SR will depend on the horse having a non_interference run.
HONESTLY a bump or block of even 1 seconds around the 3f or 2f mark when your horse has started a run ,will alter your final SR greatly.... and the outcome also.
IF im wrong please tell me as i am learning.. just hope im learning right!! hahahaha.

I was running my horses slower than normal and aviod traffic when possible and it wasn't working. I too was getting frustrated because my horses weren't winning. I have switched to run to true style and I will see if that helps when my 2 year old filly runs tomorrow night and my 3 year old runs on Wednesday night.

i have just made a new thread "trianing problems?"
i found a link inside hrf that tells why everybody has problems, why a sr100 horse runs only sr80 in tournaments.must read my thread and then go see the info..cant believe 3 weeks as a member i never clicked it before hahahahahahhhahaaa
