Hi guys,
I have read all puddles posting regarding weights, handicap, finals etc. But everyone is entittled to an opinion so heres mine.
BIG BOYS Final - Congratulations to Ron War! - But there is no doubt in my mind Doc Beauty should have carried the top weight! Doc beauty who continues to win GP1 & 2 races especially breeders finals must carry some penalty! Giving the DOC 107 is like kiss the race good bye its all over, early xmas present...smiles Arabic 119 poor horse no chance!
My suggestion i feel perhaps horses that specialise in particular distances like Doc beauty who loves the slop and sprints, and very consistence must recieve penalty in a sprint Final. While horses that prefer other distances and surfaces are given allowances(less weight) this way the back markers can run on.
If u need help with the weight formula im always available....smiles but the weights are more realistic now jus one or two adjustments....keep up the gud work HRF
If anyone would like to share some thoughts feel free!

From what your saying is a good HUMAN HANDICAPPER would of added more weight to that horse? Sounds like a good idea.

:) Just kidding. I've been on both sides of this fence and it feels better to be on the winning side of it. That's why I think what Puddles posted in his latest blog is right on point. No matter how complex the computer algorithms are to produce weights they will be off in some instances. I do believe the best solution is to have a certain group of community-handicappers do the weights and the line. They will still be off, not everyone would be happy, but I think it would be more realistic. If I was handicapping the race lee speaks of, I would have made the weights like this:
as opposed to this:
Still not perfect, but whaddya going to do?

Not sure my views are welcome anymore but I think ronwar is pretty close with his weights there.
I guess it's a bit easier to handicap a race after it's been run!
It's races like this that make it really difficult to understand how the weights are assigned. I had one of my few buddy challenge bets in this race (I'm 0 for 4 or something - before anyone else points this out!) so I had already watched all of the participants trials noting their skills/stats, races and results.
For what its worth I made it quite a close race - I expected Doc to carry a little more weight than Arabic since Doc prefers the going and the distance and had won a little more prize money and I thought these were factors in the weighting.
But seeing weight assignments like those in this final sends me back to the drawing board!
I'm struggling to see anything that warrants Arabic carrying so much more weight than the others. If anyone can tell me roughly why (I understand it's complex - but anything would help) I would really appreciate it.
Its not that I'm bothered about losing a whole 500 points - I'm not! I just wanna get a feel for the weights.

RLP, Lee and Ronster, I could explain you the reason for those strange weights (I wrote a post this morning about it, but I've deleted/modified it), but I'll wait after the new handicapping decision has been taken with certainty..

I agree the rapid evolution is a big part of the appeal here... but the friendly community helps too!
