I plan on going to the North American Racing Academy (it's a college), in a couple of years. But in the mean time, what should I do to increase my knowledge about the sport of horse racing? The closest racetrack to us, is over an hour away.............................so I can't get a part time job there. Should I just read as much as I can about it? I love to read, so that would be ok, but I'm not sure......................................

I have made my own adjustment to this ,mainly i believe in looking at every race in the PP'S regardeless of how far back.

you dont have to work at the track...find a farm and work with the horses on the farm. Whether race horses or just horse in general you can get great experience...always remember you are going to start on the bottom and work your way up...but once you get someone with some rep in the business vouching for you it is always easier.
Ok, thanks so much! I do currently take riding lessons at a local barn, so I'll look into helping out there. And somewhere between winter and spring, I'm going to be getting a horse, so that should help too.

I feel the best way to go about any profession is learn on the job. You can read and read all day but nothing beats a good kick in the ass by a 10 YO 1400lb. Broodmare. My experience came from a 3 month old sucking and she got a little ahead of me and mule kicked me (not to get explicit) right between the legs. I did have a little difficulty finding a comfortable sleeping posistion for a few weeks!
An hour away will certainly eat away at your funds the way gas prices are but IMO you are going to have to get down and dirty if you really want to pursue your dreams. The BEST always start from the bottom and work their way up.

WOW! That would hurt!! And ok, I guess you're right, nothing beats plan hard work and dedication!!
Thanks,
