I have noticed that there are a few players and one in particular who can get average pt per start thats off the charts whenever they want. There is clearly something else at play here, they must know how to manipulate the game in some way. The numbers they are reaching are almost impossible playing the game straight. How else are some getting over 500pt every race (thats the max) and averaging 1500 a start. I am not accusing anyone of cheating but some here know how to manipulate the game. I am not talking about a few races here and there, look at their pts they will have 30 straight races where they get over 500....Just my 2 cents
I will have it looked into. The good news is with the new tournamnet system we will soon be going with players with very high PPS will be very limited to certain events . The new system keeps raising the bar based on skill level.
I'll share some secrets because I like competition.
-Ride the longshots
99:1 shots coming in 2nd or 3rd can pay off like crazy.
-Look at the betting pools
some 99:1 shots are more like 300:1 shots. If the betting pool has $2000 for a 99:1 shot, those are the ones that pay off 15000 points for the Win. I've had horses pay off 9000 points for a second place finish.
-Track conditions
I've found it easier to bring in longshots in the mud and on the turf.
-Horses in the field
There are some horses that are really tough to beat, Find out which ones they are and avoid them
-Distance
I like the distance races, go to 14 furlongs and up on a muddy track and pick your horse wisely.
Sometimes I lose a race by 30 lengths but you can still get in for a 3rd or 4th place finish. With the right horse you will still get 2000 points for a 4th place finish.
Check out my jockey history, My Wins are going down but my PPS is going crazy. It's all cause of the longshot.
I concur with a lot of what nep1293 says. Knowing the horses are extremely key to any tournament strategy whether its a win tournament or a PPS tourney. I think one of the biggest things is being able to pass a race. If the pace, horses, odss are not what you like, you can back out of the race. It takes longer to run 100 races but you get a better PPS score.
It reminds of my first real cash handicaping tournament. If you expected to win or be in the top three you couldn't bet anthing under 10:1 and races where you didn't get a playable longshot you pass.
What I look for is 12 furlongs are longer races with at least 3 real good on the lead horses. I love when Daisy Cutter is in a race with 3 or 4 lead horses, because the lead horses usually tend to be the favorites. Now the key is picking the horse you want to close, I look under the stamina column for the horses who stamina is better or equal to the lead horses that do not go to the lead. There is usually 2 or 3. I take the one with the best odds that likes the surface and distance. If I do not get good odds, I back out of the race and try again. I usually let the closer or midpack runner settle in the back running at his own pace, then starting at the 6.5 furlongs and give him one tap of juice every furlong saving ground all the way. Do not be afraid to ride the rail all the way, you'll be surprised how horses drift out at the beginning of the stretch. Be patient if a horse is in front of you. Trust me he'll move in time. Once things open up you'll have dead aim on the leaders and will finish in the money a great deal of the time at big odss. Practice it in private mode and see how it works for you. One warning though some horses do not handle the rail well (iron bull) and will lug out at the top of the stretch, so I've learned not to use him. Hope that helps some.
I am glad aqacommish asked this question, because frankly I was wondering the same thing. I entered one of the PPS tournaments and was blown away by the winner's average and wondered how it was done. It deals with a whole different mindset, I guess. Instead of always wanting to come in first (which most of us instinctively want to do!) it's instead a matter of riding the most likely to get you big points regardless of finishing position. Thanks again for the tips.
Ken
I agree with the longshot ride, a 40 to 1 horse will earn a ton of points and does not have to win, so your average per start is sky high. I think that for the tournaments to be fair all around everybody should run the same races, I would like to see that and would enjoy competing in that type of tournament.
There is still another factor at play here, averaging 1500 per race over 100 races is not possible playing the game straight. I have as much experience as anyone and am good at the game but getting a 99-1 place 4th or higher every race is not possible, look at some of the pts some are getting, 20-30 races in a row where they get at least 500 pts. It not feasible. I suspect what people are doing to pad their numbers and I think others know as well.
I agree that you can't get the 99:1 shot in the top 4 every race, but you can do it at a very high percent if you choose the race wisely. 8 horse races are easier to get top 4 than a 12 horse race. And when you cash that 2nd place finish for 6000 points it gives you a little wiggle room for the races where you don't get in the top 4
Just like real horse racing, the posted odds only go to 99:1 but, as nep1293 said, by looking at the amount of money in the win pool on a particular horse, you can identify a clearer picture of what the horse's actual odds may be.
The game continues to calculate the actual odds just as happens in real Horse Racing. So, the posted odds of 99:1 could actually be much higher, significantly increasing the jockey points in the game. Community Points do not correlate 1:1 to game points, they max out at 500 per race, and 1,000 for non VIPs daily (5,000 for VIPs.)
Tournament results are based on the number of points earned in the game, not the number of community points that have been earned. Nep1293 is actually a very clever player who may find himself in a pickle as we move forward. As you'll soon see new qualifications for tournaments will include categorizing players by their average points per start. Because of his high point average, he may find himself unable to enter tournaments that are more open now. Tournaments on a go forward basis will carry multiple qualifications and different elements for winning - for example, we have only posted Jockey tournaments that were based on Avg. Points p/Start or most wins, in the next few weeks, we will begin some tournaments based on highest win percentage where points will have no relevance - at the same time, look for more and more classifications of users based on average points per start or total wins as the player base grows, skill levels will be accomplished using multiple tactics creating fair play and more tournaments.

If you are thinking you are winning. Resistance is victory.
Congrats to NEP1293 you have been featured as our horse racing game player of the week. (Check out the horse racing community home page article)
Nice job on the odds factor .very good work. There is so much to our virtual racing game you(the players ) are always learning. I have been waiting for weeks for someone to say something about how the jockey odds can go way over 99-1.
I play this game for fun and relaxation, its only a game. I could care less how many points I earn. I love racing and run races at every opportunity, but its still only a game. So have fun, run races and enjoy the Game. Good Luck To All
Wow, I'm finally on the front page of something. Thanks
I agree with horsebuggy on everybody racing the same races. It might be tough to set up but I think that would definitely be the fairest way to determine a winner. You could have a pack of 5 and 6 furlong races to determine a "sprint champion" and different divisions like that.
There could be a cap on the number of races you can run or the number of times you can jockey each horse in a tournament.
Maybe the points need to be tweaked where wins are rewarded more. It feels strange that you can lose by 30 lengths, but pass tiring horses to finish in 3rd place and collect more points then taking a good 10:1 shot and running a really good race for the win.
The game itself is great, but the tournament structure seems like it could use a little tuneup. Otherwise it would just get repetitious after a while.
The tournament platform is being developed out as I type. I expect you will see some very nice features to the tournament aspect of our virtual horse racing game in several weeks . It just gets better each month . We have all the ideas but only a small team
Thanks for all the silod feedback you guys are great .
Great racing today ,just wish I was at the Spa .....
You are right it is just a game. And some people are better at figuring game stratagy than others. But it still takes skill to pick
horses that you think you can ride to score points. But if like some people say the point system is not to their liking then, just as a suggestion points shoud be equal to the odds pay out just like at the track. 2:1 pays $6.oo so make the points 60 or 600 minus 1 zero but remmberer 20:1 pays $40.oo taking 1 zero away from 40.00 is 400 or 4000 your choice but just a suggestion.

Yes, the tournament has the minimum contestants!
400,000 big ones on the line.
The competition looks tough! Good Luck!
