Why is the track so empty?

I went down to Santa Anita a couple of weeks ago on vacation and I could not believe how few people were in attendance! The weather was beautiful, there were some great horses running and it was even a national holiday. Still, the pace was not nearly as crowded as it should have been. What is going on in the world of horse racing today? I think the powers that be have to reach out to a younger base with something that really "speaks" to them, you know what I mean.

Let me know if you agree with me. We should use this space to come up with some ideas to get the sport back on top!!!

I agree

I agree. I think that the sport has basically told fans not to come to the races in the recent years. Bettors are encouraged to stay home and wager on their online wagering platforms more than anything else. Tracks need to do a better job of getting people to the track for sure. From what I hear it used to be the most popular spectator sport in the US not that long ago.

Racing

Racing sure ain't like it used to be when I was a kid. Everyone went to the races then, and it was on the cover of all the big papers. Not anymore. I don't know what the problem is, maybe that they didn't get on TV when it was becoming the norm. Whatever they did, it sure ain't like it once was.

Decline is too bad

Personally, there's nothing I love more than spending the day at the track. Even keeping up with the action online just isn't the same to me. Nothing like a beautiful day, a cold beer, and great crop of horses. I think it's unfortunate that the attendance at tracks around the country seems to have declined recently. I think it would help if individual tracks would make more of an effort as far as marketing is concerned. People are really missing out!

empty tracks

The tracks are empty because the atmosphere of the racetrack is not as attractive as it could be. I'd like to use Aqueduct as an example. That is not a plae you take family's. the f word flows more freely in that place than water flows on th Mississippi. We as fans can do more to help the sport, we need to be more amacable and we need to show people the fun side of the sport.

Delaware Park

Delaware Park is my home track and it always seems quite lively but I think that has a lot to do with the slot machines that have helped revitalize the track. The purses are bigger the track is well kept and although we do not have too many graded races its a real fun experience (no admission charges which is a big plus).

A lot of people say Delaware Park is a lot like Saratoga and I know this will be heresy to the horse racing elite but I have been to both and prefer DP...
