I have a question? The Charles Wittingham ungraded stakes race has just ended, 22 June 2009. Eight horses were entered. All owned by the same person. Is this a glitch? How many horses are you allowed to enter in a given race? I think 2, possibly 3 should be the limit. I really don't know. But, not eight. IMO
Even if you're allowed to enter as many as you want, where and the heck were the other owners???

That is a good question, Should there be a limit on the number of horses an owner can put into a race? From looking at other sims, it seems most limit an owner to 2 horses in any given race. Maybe three for a major stakes race.
I agree with the thought that owners should be limited to two horses in a given race. More than that and they have the chance to "set-up" the race with pace and jockey instructions.
It has already started to become obvious to me that the trainer game is geared towards Large stables and owners with vast amounts of CP's and money to expend. UNLESS , you "Luck Off" and happen to get the "beast" from an early breeding.
My "one" horse has just entered it's 1st trainer tourney. What is it facing? Top line Stables with multiple entries, in a free to enter "newbie" tourney for less than 3000 CP prize money. I am loseing interest fast in the "trainer game".
How about having different tourney races like in real life. Maidens and limited Allowance races etc. for the "lesser" horses and stables. Right now, it seems the Big Money stables are dominating every tourney just trying to get the required money to be able to 'Post to Stud".

Second, Yes the "rich" have a leg up. However, what I was suggesting was the addition of "Realistic" class racing. The "Sheiks", (as you put it) may be the influential owners, BUT you don't see them running their "TOP" millionare babies in local claiming and Maiden races. Or for that matter in Allowance races if they exceed the conditions. THAT is why "real world racing" has those distinctions.

I multi bet on races some times.
Like if i don't like the odds-on favorite, and the favorite is drifting in price, IE people aren't putting much money on it in late betting.
Then I might pick 3x roughies that are 15-1 -> 20-1 shot's to win..
Backing several horses to place is pretty much a certainty to lose in the long run though, especially if its a favorite.
As for the topic.. I don't think its a big deal really. They would have lost money doing it.
It wont take them long to work that out. And they will probably stop doing it.
Until then, there's lots of tourneys, whether this person enters all their horses into one race, or a couple into a lot of races.
It doesn't effect everyone else very much imo..

What your suggesting doesn't add up maizal.
If you have a tournament, with 10 races.
Under what you said, someone could enter 20 horses in the tournament, Then put two max in each race.
They would then probably end up with a lot of horses in the final tournament race.
I'm not keen on a 2 horse per tournament limit either.
A tournament often has 10 races. and that makes enough room for you to enter more than 2 horses if you have more than 2 horses that fit those conditions.
As i said, i don't think its a biggy really, it doesn't effect other players really.

Yea, I do not think there should be limits. If someone wants to put 5 or 6 horses in a tournament, they should be allowed. I think Pletcher had 5 or 6 in the Derby one year. It shouldn't be a big deal. Maybe they wanted to see how there horses compared to when they run them in community mode together. We shouldn't be trying to take more control away from the trainer. We really do not have all the much as it is. My vote is for smaller government...er I mean more control for the trainers.

And furthermore :) I think tournaments should be broken out into groups. Currently, each tournament includes ungraded races, grade 3, grade 2, all in the same tournament. There should be ungraded tournaments, with only ungraded races, ungraded pool horses, with a minimal flat fee and the ungraded money should not go towards the breeding $$$. Theses should be quick 2 or 3 races only. The grade 3, 2, and 1 tournaments should follow suit. Grade 3's should have a little higher fees, grade 3 pool horses, and a little more purse at stake. So on and so on. Right now, if you have a small stable or you're new, you can find yourself thrown to the wolves, because everyone is in the same tournaments. All most of us or doing is just trying to find tournament with the right surface and distance. There should be tournaments in each category for different surfaces and distances. That way, If I have a horse that I'm not sure about I'll start him in the ungraded stakes - little fee, little reward. But if he destroys that field, now I know, I can step him up to the bigger fee, big reward grade 1 tournaments. Does that make sense?

I agree Ronwar. This is an idea that I've been mulling over for some time. It would certainly give newbies and struggling stables a chance to find their feet.
Although, my idea was just a slight adjustment. Let the Ungraded stakes count towards breeding $$$, as it's still a stakes races.
Then have allowance, handicaps and lower value optional claiming style races for those to get some experience and some CP's. These wouldn't count towards the breeding dollars.

Another point would be to limit larger stables, multiple winners, an so forth from entering newbie tourneys, or have tourneys open to trainers with less than X number of tourney wins.

Colmodea, I follow your reasoning, but I think the claimers and allowance race will take the developers too far away from what they already have. I think the tournament structure will stay, it just needs some tweaking IMHO. Not allowing the ungraded purses to count and making the tournaments only 1 or 2 races will detract the better horses from entering, because they are looking to pad there bank rolls. Or if the do count make them so small that its not worth it - maybe $25,000 - $50,000
If I find out my horse is not that good, I just want a place to put my horse where I know he is not facing grade 2 pool horses or the very best competition, at least until I figure out his optimum placing. Currently, after a couple bad races he's retired because no one wants to take a stable fee hit for a horse they haven't figured out after a couple races.

Interesting thoughts but do you really want to enter a horse in a ungraded race for a lesser purse?
The way it is now atleast you get a chance in a ungraded race to get comparable earnings as a
graded race. Why would you enter a ungraded race if you have a good horse when you will get
less earnings. The way it is now the better horses enter the better races and when they come
out with maiden races it will fix most of this.
Just because you have a large stable means you can't enter a new unproven horse in a newbie
tournament? Thats just crazy...This horse could be a donkey but because he belongs to a large
stable he has to enter a graded race ? He has just as much right to a newbie tourney as a

15 hours 3 min
I think it's a bit silly for one person to place eight horses in the same race, but there's probably some advantage to it that I don't care about. The only problem I see is that folks with huge stables and nothing better to do can wait for the tournament to start and then pretty much close out all other players from a particular race, and ensure that their most favored horse makes the final. It really doesn't seem fair. Having more race classifications would really help solve the issue, but that seems to be a pretty complicated endeavor for the designers of the game. On the other hand, back in 1988, I believe, D. Wayne Lukas had five entries in the BC Juvenile Fillies at Churchill and ran 1-2-3. That wasn't fair, either, but it was all by the rules. In HRF, just like in real life, lots of things favor the wealthiest of us. I suggest we get used to it and just keep plugging along and be thankful that we're not quite as obsessed with being successful at a game as others are. I'm here for fun, and as soon as the game isn't fun, I'll stop playing. I'll put my faith in puddles and the gang to improve the game as much as they can, as fast as they can.
16 min 39 sec
Classifications should and will be implemented. Entries for races and tournaments should be based on ability, preformance and results of the individual horse and not the size of the stable or how profitable the stable is,earnings or community points. It's the horse you enter not the stable.
2 weeks 2 days
Just a thought from a fairly new player.
True it only takes one great horse to make your stable.
However, many folks here have played the game for quite some time and were able to accumulate massive amounts of CP's before things changed and it became more difficult to do so.
Looking at some of the stables (players) that have HUGE amounts of horses 50-150, I am guessing they have spent millions of points. Or bought millions of points. Either way, they have increased chances of getting the top horses thru sheer numbers.
True the rich have an advantage. But this is a GAME and a Business for the developers. I neither have the time nor the money to invest $100s of dollars to catch up with those who gained all their CP under an easier system.
Hopefully, the developers will continue to improve on the Trainer game and make it a challenge and enjoyable for all players, not just the elite "rich". Otherwise as Bird said, when a game ceases to be fun, people stop playing and leave.

I agree completly to Ron's idea but let's take it a step further.
Ungraded- Its a nonwinners on one tournament or nonwinners of one race. The two options make it fair.. Such as a winner of races that is beaten in finals can go to nonwinners of one tourament. The bottom level is for nonwinners of any race. This should make that fair. The purses will be lower for nonwinners of any race followed by slightly higher for nonwinners of a tournament.
Grade 3 Non winners of two tournaments or nonwinners of two races. Both levels will start to count for money for breeding purposes. Purses are higher then ungraded but lower then grade 2
Grade 2 Open anyone can enter no restrictions apply to this. Purses are higher then grade 3 but lower then grade 1
Grade 1 Open, anyone can enter. Purses are the highest. This is the toughest class.
This would help classification. The genius aspect is I could have a first time starter and put it up to grade 1 and bomb. I can still go down to ungraded. Its my opinion though what do you think?

And, I'm sure the developers are on top of this and we'll be seeing improvements from them soon. This I'm certain of, from what I've read.
Not sure if it's necessary, but I also like the idea of Allowance races. Possibly maiden races too. This might be ideal for newbies, or, actually anyone who is having trouble doing well in the trainer game, giving them more options.
Perhaps the ideas already expressed about ungraded stakes races would be sufficent, once we impliment a good, workable plan.
Several years from now, I could visualise claiming races where we race and claim horses from other members. I'm patient though and can wait. If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen.

But it comes down to trust. The time for patience is soon over we are close to 60 days of training horses. If the simple issues haven't been solved by now they most likely won't be. I'm sure that Puddles and his team ask a set few of players on what things need to be fixed daily and make it happen. If you trust that the game is equal and fair everyone will have more horses active. Have your highly needed VIP membership. Also more players brings more horses if the game is fun and understandable. If you think to wait and see you will have limited runners hoping that the issues get resolved. Right now most players me included are on the wait and see but the longer we wait the longer we lose that trust.

excuse me if I come back to the part with the ideas about ungraded races,gr2, etc.
At the moment of things, there is a big problem, and it is the STABLING FEE for every horse in your stable.
VIP members (won't speak of non-vips because they can't live more than 1-2 months without becoming vips) pays 8500pts for a single horse's monthly stabling fee. Ungraded or GR1 horse, it is always 8500.
So, as the purses for low level horses/races are rightly LOW, the problem with the monthly fee for that kind of horse becomes bigger, as RARELY a low level horse can pay for itself (8500pts) every month.
So, I fear in the near future (some months), many lower level horses will be retired and there won't be large stable, so these nice ideas won't see the light, and probably the whole game will loose some appeal...
20k points to breed a new horse could be right, but maintaining any horse at 8.5k points could destroy the "dreams" of many trainers..
IN MY OPINION the only possible solution for keeping alive large stables and having the nice ideas of ronwar, generals etc. implemented is to ADAPT the horse stabling fee to the horse value of the previous month (community points earned).
I know I could look a bit pessimistic (or someone thinks I am complaining for stupid things), but I always try to watch ahead and analyze things if I like something very much...
